And if Russia is allowed to conquer Ukraine, it will certainly not stop there. A rough patch for Europe is not too high a price to pay for the collapse of the Russian empire. I hope for destruction of the Kerch Strait bridges sooner rather than later.
I wonder if the antitheses of status-seeking and productivity is inevitable. I imagine Putin like the stepmother spending all her time staring into the mirror and asking if he is greatest of all. Or think of the MAGA darling spending all morning getting his hair done. Or maybe the self-involved behaviors are just evidence of nothing there?

He would have said it was silly, and it is, but I felt guilty when I outlived my father--that was 22 years ago. He and his father (whom he never knew) both died at 54. Both of their lives were considerably shortened for lack of antibiotics.

When I was an undergraduate at San Jose State, I used to get my haircuts (and one or two shaves) at the local barber college. As memory serves me, a haircut cost 25 cents, which would be about two dollars today. In barber shops I noticed some men who were WAY more particular than what you describe, listener.

Yes, I was sitting down. And since I retired my better half has had me trim her hair from time to time. It adds up!
