  1. Hardly seems like it could have been that long ago.

    1. I suppose most everyone remembers where they were when they heard (or saw) the news; like the assassination of JFK or the attack on Pearl Harbor.

    2. I sure remember. Wil was working at his desk (home business then) and had seen a news brief while I was in the shower. As soon as I emerged, he said "Come see this." I walked over and he showed the live scene, with the first tower smoking badly. Just then the second plane hit the second tower and suddenly my knees gave out and I was on my knees.

An old friend we had not seen in decades was enroute, I met her near the interstate to show her the way to our house. As she had not been listening to the news at all, I asked her not to listen to it until we got to the house and she agreed. So we sat in the livingroom watching the live coverage ... and she told us that she was a nurse on the scene in Oklahoma City at the bombing there...!

    1. That's good; I had no side effects from this year's flu shot, but usually I don't.

    2. It has been an amazing few days. Got the booster on Wednesday, all prepared to have the usual response of 104ºF fever, bad headache, chills and shaking for 36 hours. But no! Instead I had a mild headache for 24 hours and only flirted with 99ºF twice. Now THIS shot (Pfizer) I could do as needed!! Yeah!

    3. Then, on Saturday the plan was to go over to Root*Center*Son's house for dinner. He said he'd make pasta and salad because I shouldn't have to cook on my birthday. PhD*Son and daughters came to visit last weekend because he would be away this weekend. But I still had NO IDEA AT ALL that anything was planned. Imagine my amazement to come down the driveway, walk around to the side of the house and find nearly all our kids and grands saying "SURPRISE!!" followed immediately by happy squeals and a bunch of sweet hugs!! Wow, do I feel loved!

All this plus delicious Chicken Parmigiana from my favourite restaurant, along with salad and ice cream cake...!

    4. Daughter and two grands stayed overnight at our house, then we met most of the guests again at our favourite apple orchard to pick apples, have the required wagon hay ride and pick our mums and gourds as well. Some of us ate out (outside table) then went for ice cream cones, before the last of the family headed home.

This has made a very sweet lifelong memory, that's for sure!!!

  4. Artur Rehi: Ukrainians pushed Russians all the way to the border in the north of the Kharkiv salient. [Click] There is an unconfirmed report of a raid into Belgorod, across the border. Astounding video of abandoned Russian armored vehicles. Russian troops phoning in to surrender. Frankly heroic behavior of Ukrainian soldiers contrasted with cowardly behavior of Russian soldiers. Russian colonel shot in the ass, not the chest. Russian citizens attempting to flee being turned back at the Russian border. Red Square in Moscow sealed off.

    1. P.S.: Artur Rehi is an Estonian army veteran; he seems a dependable source of information.

    2. WOW! This seems to be going in the right direction and quickly now. I do hope this continues. Putin has depleted his own people. He will be remembered as the terrible person he is.

    1. A true Gnostic group. Not such a bad outlook...actually fairly classic. I'd sure rather have them as neighbours than the rightwingers.
