As for the areas being burnt, I think they must be near the area that burnt last year for the first time in decades. California has had building standards for woodland interface areas for some years now, but most houses were built before those standards applied, and few people keep vegetation in check.
I was looking at the local newspaper and they say that the number of people with and hospitalized with Covid is up significantly, but nowhere near the previous peaks. But the hospitals are full and ambulance services are screening patients to see if they really need to go to the ER before they take them. That sounds like the hospital staffing has decreased--probably fewer travelers and more people who threw in the towel. Also lots of people showing up because of problems that were not dealt with during the Covid pandemic.
It doesn't look so bad, but the reported Air Quality Index is 159 this morning.
