Yes, bond clippers remember a time (1991) when they could collect 8.1%. Which meant that their monetary doubled in less than ten years. At the same time, rental property was presumed to return 9%, after all expenses were deducted. So, those were minimum returns for little or no work. Then, in about 2000, the Fed started reducing interest rates to encourage lending and stimulate the housing market. GWB started out talking about the ownership society but before we knew it we had 9/11 (attacking the world trade center, again) but USA did not get the message and invaded Iraq (because the Pentagon wanted wanted to control the Indian Ocean. 2008 The bankers in GWB family engineered a crash that was to be an October surprise to make Republicans look good. But it was poorly times;Obama stole the show and, with Biden's help got elected. So, Congress had to use the power of the purse to undermine him and the shadow economy had to keep the recession from turning into a depression. The result is that for three decades people have been steuggling, losing homes, working three jobs and now that wages are going up a little we are supposed to be desperate. The Fed is raising interest rates from near zero in hopes that the prospect of increases will encourage more borrowing. Fact is the banks are swiming in money and have no takers. The pandemic reversed old habits and the working class does not want to go back. Truth is dollars are worthless unless traded for some good or service.

(Susan) The Wasp War I have a wall-mounted horizontal mailbox with a flap that you lift to get the mail. Two days ago when I went to get the mail a wasp climbed out from the back of the box. I lifted the flap to get the mail and that shielded me from *that* wasp, which flew away. Later I lifted the mailbox off the screws that hold it in place. Yup. Wasp nest behind it. Small and still under construction. Sprayed it to saturation with wasp poison while I was safely behind the front door. Adult wasps slowly died and dropped. Waited a few more hours and then scraped the wasp nest off the wall and stomped it into jelly...just in case *anything* survived that poison onslaught. So today I go out to put some outgoing mail in the box and BLAM! revenge wasp nails me. Dang! That hurts! Use ice, take an antihistamine tablet, use hydrocortisone cream. Apparently this wasp was a survivor who was away from home when I killed the nest. So, I lurk in wait behind the storm door and, sure enough, wasp comes back. Goes behind the mailbox when I nail it with a tsunami of wasp poison. I saw it kind of fall out from behind the mailbox and then wobbly-fly away. Hope it's not planning to come back with reinforcements.
My first wasp encounter 25 years ago was one wasp, 8 or nine bites and two hours of complete black out. Got my first epi pen the next day Please consider. . . . xox
We have a few wasps around here, but they are not troublesome. I once saw a hornet a long time ago--that was scary. Can't remember if it was around here. Unlike bees, wasps and hornets don't have a barb on their stingers, so can sting repeatedly without killing themselves.
OUCH!! Gosh, that's quite the adventure, Susan! I spent 7 hours in the garden today, ripping out thick grasses from between violets in my 90 year old neighbour's yard. Only about 2 more hours' worth to go, tomorrow. I got bit my some bug or bugs about 4 times, despite wearing deet. I think they may have been ant bites, because I never heard a mosquito, and they really hurt at first. But wasps are way worse! They are also despised by me because they lay their eggs in a Monarch caterpillar egg, and infect the caterpillar inside. Sometimes you don't even know until the butterfly doesn't hatch. Mean buggers.
GOOD DAY OF GARDENING = After a long shower with extra soap, your feet are still dirty. (I'll spare you the photo. LOL)
Ohhh, not good! I had a Yellow Jacket under my shirt once. Yipes! I managed to upset a ground nest once and they swarmed up. I ran for the house but the scout/guard apparently took a ride with me. I was inside the house before we realised it was still under my shirt. I got the shirt off and Wil cornered it in the kitchen. True to form, Wil trapped it and took it outside and let it go! After dark we simply flooded the nest. Solved.

Delete(Susan). I'm okay, puddle. Only one sting. Hurts like a mother, some swelling, but no other ill effects. Though I admit to a need for vengeance.
