"Russian troops occupying the Ukrainian city of Melitopol stole nearly $5 million of farm vehicles from a John Deere dealership and shipped some of them more than 700 miles to Chechnya, CNN reported, only to find they had been rendered useless by a remote-locking system that prevented the thieves from turning the equipment on."
I see the Russians have learned who to fear. The tractors!
So far... puddle can into the new blog but as yet cannot post. It has to do with the Captcha. Waiting to hear if Brenda was able to get into the Settings and disable Captcha. 🤞 Sorry to keep you all waiting.
I wouldn't mind staying here, but puddle can't post here either. It would be so sad if we can't include her SOMEHOW!
Why can't we have both? I tend to buy two of most necessary tools, so I'd be good with two blogs. Or is that too much work? It seems like a lot for one person.
This blog and the other would likely work for ALL of us....except puddle. If she can't post on the new blog, there's no point in the rest of us moving over there. That's why we haven't taken the last step yet.
Alan, I enjoyed the geopolitico's talk and followed up with a longer presentation he gave at Fort Benning. I think his pessimism about U.S. global interests was misplaced. He forgets that immigrants' commitment to democracy is stronger than the natives. However his data about shrinking populations needs heeding.
Glad you liked it. I don't agree with everything he says, but he does have a lot of good information. He seems to be rather taken with Halford Mackinder’s World Island hypothesis [Click]. To the extent that is important because of its romantic appeal to Russians it is important, but it seems to me that every time it has been used to make predictions it has failed. George Friedman is IMO also well worth listening to in the current state of affairs (see below at 11:08 PM for video link).
"The committee referenced Biggs’ alleged role regarding “various aspects of planning for Jan. 6.” Rolling Stone reported last fall that Biggs was one of several lawmakers who participated in the planning of the rally near the White House that preceded the riot at the Capitol. It noted how Brooks recently said that Trump asked him to “rescind” the 2020 election and put him back in the White House. The comments came not long after Trump yanked his endorsement of Brooks for Senate in Alabama. As for Jackson, who parlayed his role as Trump’s White House doctor into a seat in Congress, the committee released text messages revealing that members of the Oath Keepers militia wanted to provide protection for Jackson during the riot at the Capitol."
You know how I know Dr. Ronny is bat-shxt crazy? This was his response: "“I will not participate in the illegitimate Committee’s ruthless crusade against President Trump and his allies.” Evidently they all think trying to overthrow our government is no biggie.
"Then-President Donald Trump wanted troops to shoot George Floyd protesters in 2020, according to a new book from former Defense Secretary Mark Esper. “Can't you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?” Esper quotes Trump saying."
FYI, I went into settings to disable CAPCHA, and it was never enabled. That error message seems like it might be a common one. At least one place I read suggested that it might have to do with not using the most recent update of Chrome.
I remember reading about internet providers in Africa using a method that works on old, inexpensive cell phones. They all have a very bare bones internet capability that people in richer parts of the world have hardly used. The actual searching is done by a centralized computer, which gets search terms and sends results by text message, which costs very little. For very common searches such as weather and football scores, they have an even simpler menu. I don't use, and therefore don't understand, text messages; but maybe puddle does? And someone could copy the blog a couple times a day and send it to her? And then copy her contributions and responses to the blog? Just sayin'.
Or we could move the blog to some sort of text messaging service? That would be a learning experience for me, but I would be willing to give it the old college try. I have a vague recollection of old blogs working that way back in dialup days. I have a friend I could ask about that.
George Friedman: Russia’s Second Collapse [Click] I should say third collapse, the first two being at the beginning and at the end of the USSR, but that’s quibbling. This is a very worthwhile analysis IMO. It might be of interest to read more about George Friedman [Click]

They have also imprisoned large amounts of Ukrainian wheat!

I love that the tractors could be remotely locked! Justice!

DeleteI agree-- a backup is a good idea, although it could be a bit clunky. We are a small enough group that we can do without Captcha, IMO.

I think I remember that being said of him around that time.

I definitely appreciate the reassurance! 👍
DeleteJ.D. Vance must be thrilled. After he sold his soul for a Trump endorsement, the former president couldn’t remember the candidate’s name.

Well, maybe he wasn't using is soul much, so not getting much in return would be reasonable.

Colbert showed a clip of DT screwing up the name. Colbert's audience laughed!

ReplyDelete....which puddle can't do. She can't upgrade much more or nothing will load at all via country-style dialup.

His warning that Putin has lately been very unusually quiet is rather ominous. Fingers crossed.
