  1. listener--in re your report that DIL discovered she is allergic to lobster shells, might the offending concoction have been something other than "lobster compost?" Lobster compote, maybe? Not that I have previously heard of either, but lobsters are exotic hereabouts. Google is not helpful, but at times neither is computerized spell-check.

    1. I should have said that Google is not helpful when searching for "lobster compote." A search for "lobster compost" reveals there is such a thing.

    2. Once again, I learn something every day if I'm not careful. Yesterday it was a previously unfamiliar English word (I really like to find those): "thalassocracy."

    1. Ya beat me to it; the fine of $10K per day sounds like chicken feed for for someone as wealthy as Trump, unless compound interest is applied, but maybe that is the maximum allowed.

I remember when the cause of the alergy was discovered, but the genetically altered pigs do make it quite a story.

  4. Trump’s Truth Social Appears Officially [Forked], Thanks to Elon Musk Buying Twitter [Click] “The ex-president has said he won’t flee his dying social network if Musk lets him back on but you know he obviously will.” Not being a participant in Twitter, I don’t know much about this, but suppose that within a few years it probably won’t amount to much, although evidently it is newsworthy now.

  5. Tonight: Freeze warning for parts of the Chicago area. And yes, it was in the upper 70s Saturday. I ate on the porch in my shirtsleeves.

    1. It hit 68ºF here today, and we may see a dusting of snow Thursday morning. I'm looking forward to Spring settling in someday...heh.

  6. Damn DeJoy. I mailed my absentee ballot over a week ago and they *still* haven't received it.

    1. We never got mail today, just a package (two separate functions). Also, our post office was closed this afternoon so they could sort mail. They're short staffed and no one wants the job. I can't imagine why this hasn't been addressed with Biden in office. DeJoy should have been replaced a year ago.

    2. The first thing that has to happen is to have Biden nominate members for the two vacant seats on the Board of Governors and have them confirmed by the Senate. But meanwhile, Congress has passed a law supporting the postal service and restricting DeJoy's ability to dismantle it.

  7. I finally managed to contact the place thee was supposedly selling Laphroaig Triple Wood scotch about why I hadn't received an invoice. It turns out that buried in an obscure link was the information that they only ship to parts of the western US. So I still don't know if they actually have it in stock.

    1. Bill--you could have them ship it to me, then I could forward it to you.

  8. Takeaways from Friday's January 6-focused hearing on the bid to disqualify Marjorie Taylor Greene

IMNSHO, the group Our Revolution has been over-zealous in how they frame things, both in emails to supporters and in court. It has made them seem disingenuous. The judge has noticed, and they were a little too sure of themselves. I doubt MTG will be disallowed from running again...and that bodes badly for the hopes of disallowing DT and others.

    1. The link goes to a CNN report on shelling in Ukrains. But from what I read of Friday's hearing I don't think it succeeded in painting her as an active insurrectionist and it didn't focus on the "aid and comfort" meme.
