  1. See you all probably sometime in the afternoon or evening on account of appearance for jury duty.

    2. So, after you casually mention your work related to courtrooms, whip out your art supplies and start sketching...you know, the way some journalist artists do. LOL.

    3. I figure the jury assembly room will present opportunities to sketch people.

    4. The jury assembly room has space for 160 people (according to the fire department notice), and it wasn't far from full, elbow to elbow in chairs. I was randomly not selected, and have done my duty for a year. I'd estimate that roughly two thirds to three quarters of the people were wearing masks; of those not doing so, I wonder how many are fully vaccinated and how many are unvaccinated. No telling, but I wore an N95 mask.

    5. I made good progress reading my thick book: "The Dawn of Everything." Really good so far.

  2. Re: "Trump Is In 'Burn-It-All-Down Mode" (previous thread)

Is anyone really surprised? A friend of mine who is a psychologist told me, even before DT took office, that someone with malignant narcissism cannot back down. They would actually blow things up rather than back down.

    2. Alas, they say it is because they have just developed ways of detecting such cloud-to-cloud lightning flashes. But they don't really know. . .

I remember the case several years ago of the enthusiastic preacher back East who was getting warmed up pretty good (along with his congregants), and called out for God to give them a sign--whereupon the steeple of the church was struck and set afire by a lightning bolt.

  6. Was that "better dead than red," or
"better dead than read"? 30% of American adults are functionally illiterate. That likely accounts for why they are easily deceived. We know that "appearances are deceptive," but sound is also not clear.

    2. puddle, thanks for the tip about Emu oil on top of BenGay. It really does help. Also was surprised yesterday at my doc appointment to hear my doctor talking about Blue Emu oil.

  8. Marcus and I went to see Penny in the nursing home this afternoon. Later than I wanted because I had a 6 pm Zoom meeting and it turned out Marcus didn't really know the way. (He will next time.) I just barely made the meeting before it ended.

Penny was very quiet but, as Marcus noted, she seemed better able to respond to questions than she has been for some time. She was coughing because of the fluid in her lungs, but that eased when the bed was raised more. We didn't get any info on her kidney function.

There's a winter storm predicted for tonight and tomorrow, so Marcus doesn't expect to get back until Friday. I'll be at a convention Thursday through Sunday, so I'll see her next week.

    1. Thank you for sharing, Bill. As for Penny's kidney function, in nursing homes there are often regularly scheduled blood collections (in addition to random specific orders), and reporting times may well be longer than in a hospital. Allow me to suggest that you ask her physician about the schedule for standing orders. The nursing home personnel may (for very good reasons) be reluctant to share the results absent a direct order from the physician. The punishments possible for violation of a patient's privacy can be very close to draconian.
