  1. Our earliest blooming peach (a Belle of Georgia) just began to flower yesterday--I hurried up and sprayed that and other appropriate fruit trees with horticultural oil, followed by sulphur.

  3. The culture of obedience requires enforcers to compell compliance. So, the sentiment on behalf of those who use excessive force is strong. Also, in the interest, a few peoplw have to be killed so the rest will get the message. Since the population of accpetable targets is shrinking, there is a certain sense of deeperation. "Whom can we make an example of and get away with it?"
    Gtting more guns into more hands also serves the purpose of providing excuses for more searches, more interceptions of traffick and more "security" measures at public buildings.
    The actual decreease in violent crime has stressed law enforcement. They do not appreciate the social work agenda which puts them in contact with non-violent but irrational people.

    1. So, that was two comments that had a problem. Poor Donald has turned into a figment of the imagination. It is easy to express support for a figment. You know, like the American dream.

  6. Cold (by our standards) and foggy this morning.

    1. Snowy here, as more or less predicted, although it so far doesn't seem as heavy as expected. But it started last night and is predicted to continue through tomorrow morning, so the total accumulation could be quite substantial.

  7. Today we learned that the delivery date for our Ford Maverick hybrid pickup truck has shifted from 2/13 to 5/14.

    Mind you, we only learned of it when others in a forum began reporting getting emails with the news. We have not gotten an email (yet).

    I imagine it's due to one or more of several possibilities:

    * Chip shortage

    * Shipping Contractor issues

    * Computer glitch

    * Engine issue with FordPass translates to a pre-delivery recall/production snafu

    ALL of these delays are just an automatic 90 days later than the former estimated day of delivery? It's not exact at all. It's a blanket delay. I guess that tells us that something big is going on and Ford hasn't really got a clue as to when they can ship. We still need to know WHY, lest our imaginations and speculations run amok. Ford has certainly screwed up the communication end of things.

    Gee, good thing I bought Wil snow tires for Christmas, huh?

    1. It's probably all our fault, given that we sold our Honda Fit a week ago, thinking the truck would be here soon. Heh.

    2. Huh. It's not as if hybrid drive trains are new technology. Something sure isn't right.

    3. Well, to be fair, I'm learning that it's not just the Maverick hybrids, it's also the Maverick ecoboosts, Broncos, and F150s...maybe even more. I suspect it's a chip issue. Should know in a day or so.

      But, it just seems to me that Ford owed it to folks who have already been waiting about 8 months for their vehicles to BEGIN with an explanation, instead of letting us find out the hard way.

    1. I missed my flu shot one year and got what was probably a mild case.

    2. I haven't had a flu shot since 1959, which was also the last year I had flu. (Maybe a very mild case in the 1990s; so mild it is questionable whether it was actually flu.) I have a theory that the combination of a triple-strength shot and subsequent infection created antibodies to core proteins and hence to all strains.

  10. I wonder how much snow Chicago got today.

    Take care, Bill.

    1. Different parts of the Chicago area got different amounts of snow. Not uncommon. It seemed to be pretty heavy here but I don't know how much it has come to so far.
