  1. Covid-19 Hospitalizations Surge In Florida
July 25, 2021 at 8:50 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“Florida is recording more Covid-19 cases than any other U.S. state, as hospitalizations in some areas increase at the fastest rate since the start of the pandemic,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The state accounts for one in five new infections in the U.S. and logged 67,413 cases over the past week… Florida had 314 cases per 100,000 people over the past week, second only to Louisiana.”

    1. And with the state forbidding cruise ships to require testing or vaccination to board, we may reasonably expect that either they will not accept any passengers, or that they will once again be operating seaborne plague pits.

    2. Forbidding? Can they really, as in legally, do that?

    3. I believe that as long as the ship is docked at a Florida port they can.

  3. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at my house is 91 right now. That explains why the sun was RED in the sky well before sunset. I guess we're going to have some more smoke particle weather this week. At least yesterday was gorgeous for Youngest*Vermont*Granddaughter's 3rd birthday party!

  4. All week, we've been receiving floral arrangements, cards and notes and, to a lesser extent, food.

The house feels terribly empty. Sis is particularly disturbed at having no sense of Mom's presence. So, today she started wearing her favorite of Mom's rings. She said it didn't help. But that got me thinking, and I told her the ring, bracelet and beads I wanted; she could have the rest of Mom's jewelry. She found the ring, as well as another Mom had specifically said she wanted me to have, along with the beads. Curiously, she has no recollection of the bracelet; but, she's bound to come across it at some point.

I didn't put on the beads, they not being appropriate with what I'm currently wearing, so Sis put them and the other ring away in my room. But I put on the ring I'd asked for. Wearing it currently. It's a very strange feeling, wearing a ring my mother habitually wore most of my life. I was afraid my hand would be too big, but the ring fits perfectly. Very strange feeling indeed.

On a totally unrelated topic: Olympic skateboarding? You've got to be kidding! Holy, er, sugar cubes! And I thought Tug of war was a weird Olympic sport. What happened to elegant, grownup Olympic sports like badminton? Guess I'm officially an old fart. /sigh/

    1. Over the years they have experimented with quite a few odd "sports."

I found it odd to realize that I was the oldest generation of my family. I might be the only one of my generation--I don't know. My brother dropped out of sight a couple of years ago, for the second time. I don't know if he is alive or dead.

I’m glad you have Mom’s ring (etc.) and that it fits…! Sometimes it’s the little things that get you through.
