Buh Bye, July!

Mt Mansfield is in there somewhere...behind the smoke haze.

CDC study shows three-fourths of people infected in Massachusetts coronavirus outbreak were vaccinated but few required hospitalization [Click] Delta variant, July 4th tourist gathering at Provincetown.

Pfizer data show vaccine protection remains robust six months after vaccination. [Click] Company officials also presented data showing that a third shot could boost disease-fighting antibodies many times higher than the level achieved by the standard two-dose regimen.

    1. I am not personally convinced that a booster is worthwhile for _most_ people. There is limited but believable data that one would be helpful for immunocompromised people who responded poorly to the first two shots. I see claims that people my age nay not have responded so well, but no data to support those claims.

    2. I am thinking about it because my wife and daughter are both arguably higher than normal risk, and I will be taking that in-person drawing class, three hours twice a week in a neighboring county with an even lower vaccination rate than Fresno. I will wear a new N95 mask each day, but except for me the students will probably almost all be teenagers, and vaccinations will not be required or verified. Masks will be on offer, but maybe not required. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

It has a pretty solid record of doing just that.” Note: click through to the full column for an account of the idiotic mass behavior that brought about the outbreak of coronavirus among vaccinated tourists in Provincetown around July 4th.

    2. I actually WANT the third shot, and like hearing that reactions to it are mild...but I'll believe it when I see it because I had a STRONG reaction to the 2nd shot. But whatever the reaction, I am ready to take the 3rd shot.

  4. A Plant That ‘Cannot Die’ Reveals Its Genetic Secrets [Click] The article doesn’t mention some things that I recall about this extraordinary plant. If you see photos of its flowers you immediately see that it is a kind of conifer—they look like those of pine trees. And its trunk grows down into the ground rather than up into the air, seeking water in the bottoms of the dry riverbeds where they grow.
