Rhododendron in Glory

  1. Rhododendrons grew wild where I grew up, and did famously as garden plants too (but the wild ones couldn't be transplanted--the roots were too shallow and widespread). Here the weather is too hot; the soil and water are also too alkaline. Some manage to get by in sheltered places, but they aren't vigorous.

    1. In Newburyport, Massachusetts there is a wonderful estate on the bank of the Merrimack River. Now known as Maudslay State Park, the original and elegant mansion burned and the family did not rebuild. But there are gardens throughout, including a bricked English Garden and gorgeous old greenhouses. It lay in ruins for many years, until the Master Gardeners of the town took it in hand. Now it thrives. The Rhododendrons, over 150 years old, are more than two stories high. I wish I were there this week!

  5. I bought a new desperately needed printer/copier today. Will have Son #2 set it up for me tomorrow because app stuff is involved and I don't understand that at all! I hate having discalculia. In this day and age of tech it is a major handicap.

    1. What printer/copier did you choose?

We recently got a HP Envy 6055e, and really like it.
