    1. Oh. "AP" stands for Advanced Placement, not, as I had assumed, for Associated Press.

  2. My children rejected advanced placement four decades ago. I had no personal opinion because I had no experience of public schools. I did know that none of my social studies or history classes ever went beyond 1900. The Greeks and Romans were covered over and over again. The most valuable teachers were those who emphasized WHERE information was to be found, not WHAT one was to learn.
When the graduate instructor at Georgetown spent hours reading from yellowed notes, I dropped out of graduate school and never looked back.
Our daughter got a Phd in Paleobotany from Yale and then Republicans cancelled all funding for basic research.
The brief against anti-intellectualism is valid.

    1. Perspective: My friends in Newfoundland are just getting their first Covid shot. Up there the second is scheduled for 3 months later...! 25% are vaccinated so far.

    2. *We LIVE in a privileged nation, that is.

I'm pretty sure they're getting AstraZeneca, because that vaccine has 12 weeks between doses. Wow.

    3. The Trump administration DID jump into funding vaccine development and production in a big way, although they didn't follow through on distribution.
