I think there is no country in the entire world where it is as difficult to supply a foreign army as in Afghanistan. It has not been called the graveyard of empires for nothing. It has been the latest demonstration of the limits of US military power. I remember someone pointing out that there has not been a successful colonial war (with the arguable exception of Tibet) since the widespread distribution of the AK-47.
Hallo All! Today I got a clean bill of health at my annual physical. I do not hold that lightly.
I even had an EKG done, to reassure the kids, after Wil's surprise heart issue in December. It was a normal EKG. Slight arrythmia showing, but totally in the normal range.
Waiting on A1c and cholesterol results, but I'm not worried about those.
I had a nice telephone chat with the pulmonologist this afternoon. He figures that probably the little abnormality my GP noticed in my lungs is nothing much and will probably go away, but wants me to have another chest x-ray in six weeks. Major consideration is that I am feeling well.
My medico wanted to rule out something similar to the lung problem that caused my mother's death, so that was scary. I forget the name of it, but it becomes more frequent as people age; a respiratory virus sets off a progressive pulmonary fibrosis that can be stopped with steroids if administered in time, but my mother was unwilling to seek care until it was too late. She became very difficult in her later years.
I had been long plagued with a cough. I tried various things that helped a bit, but didn't cure it. Motivated by my medico's concerns, I developed and used a type of breathing exercise: take as deep a breath as possible and hold it for a while, let it out and repeat a few times, repeat once in a while. In less than a day the cough was gone! I can't be sure, but I think the cough may have started around the time I had my hospital stays for abdominal operations in 2009. That resulted in a lot of severe inactivity. If so, it is the last side effect of my cancer treatment to recover from.
The photo cracked me up so much! I just had to share it.

LOL on the baby.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, Rachel Maddow announced Biden's intent to have all U.S. and NATO troops out of Afghanistan by 9/11/21. To be announced today.

DeleteCT scan of pterosaur neck vertebra from Morocco shows unique internal structure [Click] Very strong while very light weight; could be copied by human engineers. In some pterosaurs the fifth neck vertebra was as long as the creature’s body!

ReplyDeleteAh, that is reasonably good news! May it continue to be.
DeleteSounds pretty dang good to me! Congrats.

DeleteYou are getting there, Alan.
DeleteAnd you are quite good at deductive reasoning; it serves you well.
I'm glad that neither of us seem to be following in our mothers' footsteps.
