    1. A fine article! I read it aloud to Wil, in its entirety. Some real comfort in Frum's words.

    1. Sounds like a decent sort of chap, but not sure any R garners the fond designation "Guv".

    3. I did. He does sound like a good guy.

I may be mistaken, but my understanding was that "Guv" was first used by the Dean Crushies to express their enthusiasm for Howard. You know... because they luv the Guv. So it would indicate a kind of Crushie devotion. But you did sound enthusiastic...

    4. I was particularly taken with that portrait photo of him in the probably abandoned factory or whatever.

  4. Once is an exception, a repeat is an admission that Congress has been in charge of the currency all along and if certain populations have been deprived of their fair share, then Capitol Hill is to blame.
I find it somewhat ironic that poor Donald targeted his minions in the right direction, but at the wrong time.
For four decades, Capitol Hill has had only one agenda--to keep themselves in office so they can wield power over an electorate that is not appreciative.
It used to be common wisdom that "everyone hates Congress, but loves their own Representative." That was wishful thinking and the replacement of 50% of the House with newcomers is proof. Eight years of keeping the House doing nothing merely resulted it being flipped to control by the other party.
2020 was the year for the Senate to be flipped. I actually expected more success. But I guess I overlooked the importance of the military installations to Republican control. Mainers voting for Collins and ignoring the top of the ticket provides a clue. The message of the base closures has not been forgotten.

Americans be like: Really? That's it? Those allegations would take out half of Congress. Try insurrection.

    1. Not quite Paganism, since pagans wouldn't credit God. More like Pantheistic heresy.

  9. Capricon is over. This was a virtual science fiction convention held on the dates originally scheduled for the in-person convention. Zoom panels and Discord chats. This year's theme was "Creating the Future We Want," which fits my interests to a T. I was on six panels and read from my not-quite-complete novel The Whip of Abadur. I also watched a number of other panels and presentations. Pretty much all great.

    2. Good title! How long have you been writing the novel, Bill? About what length will it be? I know writing a novel is a large undertaking.

  11. The central flaw in Trump’s impeachment defense [Click] Without Trump’s advocacy and falsehoods, there would almost certainly have been no violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

One excerpt: It’s possible that Trump learned about the [Jan. 6th] vote-counting only because he saw an ad created by the Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump Republicans. That ad aired Dec. 10 and prominently featured then-Vice President Mike Pence’s role in confirming the final electoral-vote count. Trump was reportedly furious when he saw the spot and was soon insisting that Pence could simply stand in the way of the final vote counting. (He Couldn’t.)

    1. Oops! No doubt the Lincoln Project didn't mean to be the proximate cause of an insurrection. Darn that pesky law of unintended consequences.

    2. From the source article:

Their attention has focused on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, a rarely cited Civil War-era provision which allows Congress to bar individuals from holding office if they have “engaged in insurrection.” A resolution to censure Trump would require a simple majority vote to pass in the House and Senate.
