I agree that your number one is dandy, listener. Here is a slideshow: Various pictures of Bernie and his mittens [Click] I still think the one on the Iron Throne is the best of these; and Amanda Gorman [Click] is evidently in contention with him.

For all that the news has gotten much calmer and more straightforward since Wednesday, we did indeed get an old-fashioned (or at least a past-administration typical) news dump tonight.
It turns out that, in the last, desperate days of his attempt to keep his grip on the presidency, Trump plotted with a lawyer in the Department of Justice, Jeffrey Clark, to oust the acting attorney general. The plan was to replace Jeffrey A. Rosen, who replaced Attorney General William Barr when he left on December 23, with Clark himself. Clark would then press Trump’s attacks on the election results.
So, Susan, how are you doing post January 20th? Have you exhaled at all? How are you sleeping? Any improvement yet? I'm hoping you get a good night's sleep yet.
Oh, I am so glad to hear that you are sleeping well again!! Proof positive that it was the anxiety of that horrible Administration. It sure helps to see the wheel turn and justice to be at the fore again.
🥳 Delighted to hear you're getting the vaccine!! Life is beginning to look up, eh?!
I've just spent a good hour searching for a book, a much loved book called "The Golden Treasury of Children's Literature". It isn't where I last remember seeing it, nor does it appear to be anywhere. I have a terrible feeling it went into a box for the library - a box that is long gone. Sometimes I do incredibly stupid things like that.
It wasn't just for sentimental reasons that I wanted it though. A story referred to in a quiz I'm working on is in that anthology. Some Internet searching did at least turn up the author's name, but the story itself doesn't seem to be online - It's not old enough for Project Gutenberg for example - and I can't find the publication date. Of course, that's not strictly necessary, but I like to give thorough info. *sigh* It really does upset me to think the book is gone forever.
That's the book. Thanks, Alan. I had the 1966 edition, of course. Being an anthology, it contains previously published stories and excerpts from novels. The story I'm interested in at the moment is "Raoul the Owl" by Jay Williams. But the volume also contains a few of Aesop's fables, at least one of Kipling's "Just So Stories," "Blue Beard" and excerpts from "Bambi" and if memory serves "Peter and Wendy." I'm pretty sure "Androcles and the Lion" is in that book too. So, "Raoul the Owl" could have originally been published anytime from 1945 through 1966.
None of that is to gripe, just to explain. I really appreciate your finding it for me. And the price was certainly reasonable. Did you get a load of, was it the Used or the Rare, that was $75? Yikes! I'd be afraid to touch a book that cost that much!
I can create a web site. The verbiage talks about blogs, but nowhere does it explain how to create one. Sorry, but I'm very frustrated. Stopping for now.
Are you guys sure Live Journal won't do? I mean, like the Russians give a good goddamn. As long as we don't plot the overthrow of Putin, I can't see that it matters.
I sure don't want to have anything to do with a Russian owned entity.
When the time comes, I can ask a friend how she created a Wordpress blog. That's really all we need to know for now, isn't it ... that our Plan B is Woordpress ... ? If Blogger fails us, we can work out the details via email and Messenger, true?

DeleteSleeping much better the last two nights. Only woke up once in the middle. AND I have an appointment next Wednesday for my first Covid-19 vaccination.

used = new
DeleteYes, I noticed the fancy prices. . . But the non-fancy price, for "Good" quality (plus postage) seemed tolerable. My pleasure to be of service.
DeleteOkay, Listener, I'll check out Word Press. Who knows, that might also have a community feature.
ReplyDeleteSo, Live Journal is definitely out? Should I delete the account there? Are you *absolutely* sure?
It turns out I have a Word Press account. Who knew? Proceeding with exploration.

Yes, someone fully sighted will have to work it out. I can't even delete the web site I accidentally created.

I think Rich Kolker did also when he had his Foreign Service blog.
FYI, apparently we used Wordpress back in 2006, so there is already a howardempowered.wordpress.com. Sadly, I have no idea what the login was.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I have no recollection of that.
