    1. Granted that this is geoengineering, which calls for great caution, this sounds far better than injecting sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere. I remember reading about experiments with iron supplementation of sea water decades ago, which was intended to see if it would increase plankton and therefore fish stocks; it worked, but was stopped for fear of what unknown effects it might have.

    2. Another thing to consider: iron supplementation of seawater, just like sulphur dioxide injection into the upper atmosphere, is inexpensive enough that a single very wealthy individual could do enough to alter the climate.

    1. Hmmmm.... suddenly lacking the courage of his convictions, eh?

Sorry, that is the best response I can come up with.

    3. No--in my comment above I posted a link to a video of a QAnon guy being interviewed by Anderson Cooper. He apologizes to Cooper for believing that Cooper eats babies.

    1. Tisk, tisk. Who could have foreseen that Brexit would cause problems? :P

    2. In the normal course of events, such difficulties would open up opportunities for smugglers. But I doubt many people will be smuggling frozen carrots.

    2. Back when I worked at the Bookshop, I closed the store at 5:00pm and was ready to leave at 5:30pm. I still remember how good it felt at the end of January, because there was still light as I was locking the door!

    1. We just watched Groundhog Day ... again...!

It sure looks like Punxsutawney PA will be having a blizzard Tuesday, which would mean that Phil will NOT see his shadow, meaning an Early Spring is predicted.

It also helps that the National Weather Service expects February to be much warmer than usual, and March and April to be warmer than usual.

  9. While doing some gardening (pruning and replacing a sprinkler head) I found myself reflecting on what might happen if Trump does not present a brief, does not have an attorney, does not appear, represents himself, etc. I see that Senator Leahey is an attorney (JD Georgetown Law, etc.). That being the case, I expect that he is probably refreshing his memory about the Federal Rules of Procedure. Technically they probably don't bind the Senate, but they ought to be a good guide. BTW, listener, I see that Leahey was Chittenden County Attorney. Also that he is the last of the Watergate Babies.

Trump announces legal team after high-profile departures
    By Caroline Linton, Sara Cook
    January 31, 2021 / 6:44 PM / CBS News

Former President Trump said Sunday that he has selected a legal team, according to his office, less than 24 hours after several members of his legal team parted ways with the former president. Mr. Trump's Senate impeachment trial is set to begin on February 9.

Lawyers David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor Jr. will represent Mr. Trump, the office said.

The news comes after Trump adviser Jason Miller confirmed on Saturday night that South Carolina attorney Butch Bowers, who was expected to be the lead attorney, and Deborah Barbier are no longer part of his team. A Trump adviser said the departures were mutual.

  12. Sen. Bernie Sanders told ABC News that he believed Senate Democrats have the votes to pass another COVID-19 relief package.

    Said Sanders:
“Yes, I believe that we do because it’s hard for me to imagine any Democrat, no matter what state he or she may come from, who doesn’t understand the need to go forward right now in an aggressive way to protect the working families of this country.”

Well, Bernie, I sure hope you're right.
