The Bernie Mittens Painting story...

Wendy Windbeckler 28 January I have to share the touching story about my Bernie Sanders painting that I shared on my timeline... because it brought tears to my eyes.
A few days ago I auctioned the Bernie mittens painting with proceeds going to Meals on Wheels. There were three people that bid on the painting.
The $125 bid won out & the very generous bidder sent me a photo of the receipt from Meals on Wheels & said he wanted me to send the painting to the other people, a couple, that bid on it, he felt they should have it, not him.
I contacted them with the surprising good news. As it turns out they were not bidding on the painting for themselves. The wife has a dear friend that has cancer & she was bidding on it to give to her as a gift.
So now I will mail the Bernie painting directly to her friend who will love having the Bernie smitten with mittens painting.
Call it what you will...paying it forward... generosity... a blessing... instinct... serendipity... synchronicity...
It looks like Love in action to me.
Thank you so much my generous friends for the love you share.

    1. 🎨 Yes, this portrait really conveys Bernie well.

And it was so sweet how it was all about kindness upon kindness. I can only imagine it also warmed Bernie's heart to hear of that.

  3. Gifting art is a three-fer:
    Feeds the artist
    Pleases the recipient
    Avoids clutter

  6. Apps Tracked the Capitol Rioters [Click] The NYT reporters could identify considerable numbers of the cell phone users; the feds ought to be able to identify nearly all of them. Do they not know that their cell phones constantly broadcast their locations? Or do they not care? I suspect the former.

    1. The only way to stop cell phones from broadcasting their locations is to remove the battery. Which is impossible with many popular models.

    2. I suppose the cell phone transmissions could be stopped with a Faraday cage--wrap them up in aluminum foil, for instance. But a lot of people these days couldn't bear to do that.

    3. Doubt these guys thought it forward--gotta remember they were taking selfies. . . .

    4. Yeah. Removing the battery and such kind'a renders the phone non operable, which kind'a defeats the purpose of having a cell phone.

    1. That's a relief. I hope it gets all the way through Congress. If not, how about an Executive Order?

    2. Executive orders are less far-reaching and more easily cancelled than laws.

    3. Yeah. I was thinking of it as better than nothing if Congress won't follow through.
      Hopefully they will.

    1. Interesting. McCarthy was doing that the other night after the Republican conference failed to discipline Green. Well, he said, Omar said this and Waters said that and nobody in the lefty media batted an eye. So, we thought we'd give sweet little Marjorie a pass. (my paraphrase)

  9. Blow to Amazon as Alabama warehouse workers given go-ahead for union vote [Click] “National Labor Relations Board denies Amazon bid to delay election and says vote can be conducted by mail.” The union is The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). I still think the ILWU —the International Longshore and Warehouse Union— would be the most appropriate union, but it’s the workers’ choice, not mine. An appropriate union is better, but any union is better than none. The ILWU is big and rough enough to frighten Amazon. They could, for instance, halt delivery of shipping containers from overseas to Amazon.

    1. I gather that Amazon was unacquainted with the old truism that the only effective recruiter for a union is management, and they installed a team of incompetents. Having been through such an experience myself, I feel a little sorry for the workers who (I fully expect) are going to learn that no small numbers of their coworkers, including those who signed their cards for the union, can be bought, deceived, or intimidated by management. But they will simultaneously learn that some people keep their word no matter what.

    2. Keep us informed, Alan. I sure hope the union wins. But it's a victory for the workers' right to vote on unionization has been vindicated. What a lousy world when the upholding of basic rights is accounted a victory, but there it is. Thank you, Donald Trump.

    2. And he was subsequently disowned by his state party and did not win reelection.

According to reporting on CNN, by contrast, Green's constituents seem happy with her. It is, presumably, then unlikely that the Georgia Republican Party will discipline or repudiate her. Looks like she's the new face of the Republican Party. Frankly, I have decreasing respect for old school Republicans who keep hanging on in hopes that McCarthy and other leaders will see the light. The longer they wait to leave the party, the stronger and more clinging the taint will become. Instead of wringing their hands they should, in my view, be stampeding to change their party registration. Leave the racists and the violent insurrectionist where they are, I say. Go off and organize a sane, civil, law abiding party and let the kooks self-destruct. But that's just me.
