  1. Vermont election results were certified on Tuesday!

372,000 votes is a new record in Vermont! It’s 50,000 more votes than the previous record, set in 2008.

  2. Pretty pictures, especially the second.

    MOM UPDATE:
It's not looking good. She doesn't seem to be sleeping, though she does rest quietly much of the time. occasionally she has clear bursts. For the most part, though, communication remains very difficult. She's barely eating - Sis got some orange juice in her this morning, but that's all. She remains agitated and confused, understandably. It's awful to see her like that... Her hands are like withered leaves.

Dad has been in contact with the insurance company, so that process has started. If I understand correctly, the home care company needs to do an evaluation. This would normally be in person, but in light of the pandemic it will probably be virtual. We're waiting on that. In the meantime, Sis and Dad are working hard to keep Mom comfortable. My roll has become night watchman so they can get some sleep.

Please, everybody, keep those prayers and such coming. I'll look in here when I can.

One political note: I'm proud to be a citizen of Massachusetts. Gov. Charlie Baker has, as you may have seen, issued a strong statement condemning Trump's continued refusal to concede.

  4. Likely explanation for why many children don’t get COVID-19. [Click] As had been suspected, they have cross-reactive antibodies to other coronaviruses; some are to the base of the spike protein, which is common to all the coronaviruses.

  5. Hard to believe; Georgia is going to do a complete HAND recount of the presidential votes.

    1. Why is it hard to believe? If you're going to do a recount, it needs to be done differently than the original count. That's why voting machines print some sort of paper ballot or record. And while it's exceedingly rare these days for a recount to change anything, having one when the vote is at all close increases confidence in the result.

  7. Ben Davis: Joe Biden's coalition is whiter, wealthier – and will not stick around [Click] “Biden’s win depended on suburbanites tired of Trump, who voted Republican down ballot and will certainly vote Republican in future elections.” The progressive wing of the Democratic Party is the one that has been gaining support.

    1. This article actually has two distinct themes: the suburbs and centrist vs. progressive messaging. I can't speak to the specific swing-state suburbs he cites, but what he says doesn't apply to Chicago's suburbs. When I was knocking on DuPage county doors in 2004 it was so solidly Republican that many Democrats voted in the Republican primary so they'd have a say in who won. This year Democrats took the majority of county offices. And they held both of the prevously Republican-leaning suburban Congressional seats that they flipped in 2018. Both suburban demographics and the political views of many traditional suburbanites are changing.

  11. My old OshKosh bomber jacket has been looking shabby after only about 55 years, and I replaced the zipper pull with a paper clip a couple of years ago, so of course they don't offer them anymore. I found something very close at Land's End; regular price seems pretty high, but at 50% off and free shipping I figure it will be OK if it lasts me as long as the OshKosh did. [grin] The old one will be OK for gardening.
