  1. We have fired DT, and that's making America great again.

  2. Wildfire smoke leaves people more vulnerable to COVID-19, researchers say

So it’s important for people in fire-prone regions to minimize exposure to the virus and to avoid smoke.

    1. Makes sense; we've done about as much as we can. Rain and snow have suppressed the smoke from the nearest big fire in the mountains, but we are nearing the time of year when people are permitted to use wood for heat. They can't use an open fireplace, though; only low-emitting fireplace inserts. One thing I am worrying about a little is a probable court martial appearance at Camp Pendleton (near San Diego) January 25th to 29th. There's no way around taking an airplane flight, and eating safely will require some thought.

    2. The deluxe (or at least semi-luxe) heater filters I installed early in the smoke period definitely improved our indoor air quality.

    3. Alan, please tell me there is an option for you to be present via Zoom! Making you go there is insanity.

    1. Me too. Illinois had more than 12,600 new cases today. Even after adjusting for 200 times greater population, that's still worse than Vermont. Which is bad enough.

  4. Mom Update:
Things aren't great. She rallied somewhat during the night, but by morning she couldn't stand and was having difficulty turning over or sitting up in bed unaided. Her speech is now all but unintelligible and she's having difficulty drinking, as if her lips and tongue were numb. She's understandably confused, distressed and exhausted, having gotten little sleep last night. Please continue to pray for her as well as for my dad and sister, who are working valiantly to take care of her. As I write, Dad is contacting the company with which he has longterm care insurance. Please add a prayer that all goes well with that and there will be as few delays as possible. Thanks, guys, for being there and showing such concern. ♥

    1. Cat, it sounds from the writing that your family is trying to deal with this at home. She needs a hospital and medical care. This is too big for your family to deal with.

    2. Absolutely. And this sounds like one of the cases where long-term care, should that be needed, is best arranged through the hospital.

    3. Seriously...Mom needs to be assessed by doctors and given necessary treatment. The earlier a stroke victim gets professional care, the better their chances. Prayers and Medical care go hand in hand. I don't understand. Is she refusing treatment?

Sending a big ol' HUG your way, Cat. ✨

(This puts Vermont in perspective. And I still don’t want to leave my house...!)

  7. Gathered from behind paywall:
Polling errors this year are almost identical to 2016, despite pollsters’ attempts to compensate by weighting for education etc. But whereas the national polls were pretty good in 2016, they were off by about three percent this year (in favor of Trump). Why?
Evidently because Dems, while stuck at home, were more likely to answer surveys than were Republicans. [Click]

  8. "CNN: Melania Trump has not reached out to Jill Biden about transition."

Dr. Biden knows far more about the job than does the Gold Digger in Chief.

  10. PhD*Son wrote these words about what Jake Tapper said. (You definitely want to see this clip!)
    https://twitter.com/jayrosen_nyu/status/1326295478175211521?s=20

"Tapper nails it here. Worth watching the whole thing. The Biden administration should have the full transition period to prepare for running the country. People are literally dying every day because of the utter incompetence of the Trump administration. We don't have the luxury of time to indulge Trump's idiotic fantasies. The sheer cowardice and dereliction of duty by the entire Republican "leadership" is somehow both shocking and utterly predictable."
