BEAU (from puddle)

Beauregard Houdini Einstein died about at two this morning.  He’s now reposing in the kitchen in front of the freezer.  He was fine all day, peppy, barky,  Came in about six, had dinner: kibble with chicken soup on top.  About two hours later he seemed to start dragging.  By midnight, it was clear he was feeling crummy.  He’d lie down, listless for long periods, get up and move, then repeat.  I asked him if he wanted to go out    no he didn’t.  I put a little bit of cottage cheese in his bowl, he came over and looked at it, turned around and fell down, legs stiff, very much like a fit, which passed.  He lay there for a while and I comforted him, he got up and walked to in front of the fridge, and one more time to in front of the freezer.  I  was getting up about every five minutes to go stroke, pet, talk softly with him, which he seemed to like, and then the last time, I couldn’t see him breathing any more.  I think maybe a series of strokes.  Dog his size has a eight year life expectancy, he died just six weeks short of ten.
Dear Lord, I’m going to miss him.

Called  Cooter a bit after seven, he’s coming to bury him in our family plot across the river from here.   Blessed child.

  1. So sorry, puddle. But it seems he went in a pretty peaceful way; we should all be so lucky.

  2. I just spoke with puddle.

Her son came, dug a grave for Beau, and they are now going over the river to bury him in her pet cemetery. Send a little prayer and some sweetness vibes. It’s sure to be a tough day. ✨💔✨

    1. Correction!
Beau is not being laid to rest in a pet cemetery, but the family cemetery. That is allowed in W VA. 🐶🥰

  4. Laugh? We nearly all died – why my US failed state Twitter thread went viral. [Click] “The final throes of the Trump presidency exposed America as the bad joke – and danger to the world – it has certainly become.”

  5. I keep thinking about winter and holidays coming on, with Covid ramping up. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and Super Bowl, all days regularly associated with indoor gatherings now turned into potential superspreader events. This could rival the “1918” influenza.

  6. Sis just passed on a snippet that gave us both a smile. Mum is having a not so good day, tired and confused. She likes her TV on, though Sis says she doesn't think she can see or hear it too well. Bernie was on the TV. Mum recognized him - probably his distinctive voice - and said his name very clearly and went on to grumble unintelligibly but obviously about him. We figured it was a good sign that she could get ticked off at Bernie.

    1. Sis found out about this, and it's remarkable under the circumstances. You know Bernie wants Labor. Well, Mum was expressing her view that "Joe'd better not take away any of our senators." With everything she has to worry about, with as foggy as her mind often is now, she could be sharp enough to make this point! It floored me.

    2. Truth be told, I don't want to give up Bernie as my Senator.

I think Peter Welch would be willing to move to the Senate. The big question is who would be our Representative then? Would it be a special election? Or does our (Republican) Governor appoint someone??

  7. puddle, so sorry to hear Beau is gone. I could see in your writings how much you loved him. I'm sure the love was mutual.

    1. The problem, as always, is that the people with the power to DO SOMETHING are not listening, and the people who ARE listening have no power.

    2. One of my former coworkers was working in a field hospital when the Battle of the Bulge started. The field hospitals on either side of them were overrun by the Germans, but the line in front of them held. So almost instantly they had to handle the work of three field hospitals in a major battle. A board was set up with their dosage schedule; they would be given a methamphetamine tablet and sent out to their job for whatever length of time it was--I don't remember if it was 16 hours or more--then given some time to sleep (not sure if it was 8 hours--quite possibly less). When their sack time was up they were kicked out of bed (literally if needed), took their next dose of meth and were put back to work. That continued as long as needed. But that wasn't long, maybe a week or ten days. Not like the Covid-19 pandemic at its worst.

    1. This was the easily foreseeable result of Trump's China policies. Everybody talks about Trump and Russia, but he has helped China even more.

    1. I am still inclined to the opinion that it would be in poor taste for President Biden's staff to throw Trump out the front gate of the White House, into the hands of a howling mob; but the idea is growing on me. But better to escort him out through that secret underground exit we saw in Dave.
