Dad talked to the insurance people first thing this morning, but only a secretary type, who said she'd pass the word up the chain. Who knows? No sign of any inspector thus far today. IIUC they had 48 hours. Presumably that means if they don't do anything by end of business hours today we're in the clear. Whoopee. That means all weekend till Dad can start again trying to get nursing help.

The whole thing is complicated. I am among those who think he has served too long in any case. Just as one example, I think Lisa Madigan would make a good governor -- but not as long as her father is Speaker and Dem Party Chairman. The immediate dust-up is that the state's major electric distribution utility got jobs for friends of his in hopes of influencing him. He says he knew nothing about it and there is so far no public evidence to contradict this claim. But several prominent Democrats, including the governor, are no longer in his camp.
Yesterday or the day before I was for some reason reading about parsnips, and thought they might be something to try for Thanksgiving. Today when we were shopping I looked at them and they were way more expensive than I expected: $2.49 per pound. Maybe I could grow some from seed. I was surprised to learn that they are a starchy root vegetable, and were displaced from that role by introduction of the potato.
puddle--I ordered a jacket from Land's End, and chose the wrong size. Like you said, the customer service is dandy; easy as pie to make an exchange. Heck, I might even go back and look at their catalogue again.
