After Hallowe'en, there was a notice in our local Front Porch Forum (which is emailed to all interested households) inviting folks to drop off their used pumpkins at the end of a particular person's driveway, so they could feed them to their pigs. I ♥ Vermont~!
MOM UPDATE: She had a quiet night and was able to sleep a little in the morning. She asked for something to eat not long ago and seems more aware of the world around her.
Dad had a call in late morning from the hosp is people. Come to find out, they do not actually *do* anything or provide any services. They coordinate and arrange. The social worker who called gave Dad yet another company to contact.
Meanwhile, it has been a week since my mother's stroke and she is not getting the proper nursing, OT and other care. Honore does all the day to day, hour to hour caring and she is on the ragged edge. Dad does what he can and is distraught and exhausted. I am useless. No, that is *not* self pity; it is mere stark fact. And this social worker told Dad someone would call him tomorrow. Pardon my French, friends, but bloody hell and holy fucking shit! While the for profit health care bureaucracy grinds along, my mother is suffering and my father and sister get ever closer to nervous breakdown. There's got to be a better way! There's got to be someone who can get my family the help they need!
Please, everybody, carry on storming the heavens. Pray for my mother's recovery and that Dad and Sis may find the physical and emotional strength to carry on until help arrives.
What most people do is go to the Emergency Room at the first sign of a stroke. They can start treatment immediately, which can help the outcome greatly, and once you're in their system there, the doors open from inside. It's harder to get a bed from outside.
I hope that phone call tomorrow opens doors. Prayers ensuing! π πππ π
According to CNN, some Trumpsters no longer trust Fox News and are getting their news from the Inner tubes and Howard Stern. God help us all!
In the watches of the night I also heard a clip from the gov. of South Dakota earlier this year at a Trump rally. She said, and I quote: My people are happy because they're free. Covid positivity rates in South Dakota currently hover around 60%, while the state's hospitals are nearing capacity. CNN talked to a critical care nurse who said many of her patients die insisting they do not have Covid. Yeah, they're happy and free all right. BTW the SD gov. was invited to appear on CNN but declined. I wonder why she might do that, seeing as she is so proud of her state. :P
It was great until I learned that chickens also eat pumpkins, as all our grands have chickens! Oops! Next year!!
Speaking of chickens...we have chickens too...unintentionally. The 5 chickens belonging to our neighbour across the road keep coming over here. I now know why the chicken crosses the road! It’s to muck up my new garden and mess up the driveway we worked on all Summer.
Progress! The nurse came this afternoon. She did a thorough evaluation. At first Mom seemed pretty out of it, but she rallied, being able to answer questions remarkably clearly. One thing made us all laugh. They ask orientation questions. When the nurse asked who the president is Mom immediately said, "Joe!" She fumbled a bit and then said "Joe Diamond." Hey, close enough, right? The nurse smiled and said he'll be our president soon, to which Mom replied with great vigor and definiteness, "He's our president now!" Sis told the nurse this was by far the sharpest Mom has been since the stroke. It tired her, of course, so she's resting now.
The preliminary prescriptions are already at the pharmacy and Dad has gone to pick them up. They will make her more comfortable. And there will be a big box of palliative care supplies coming tomorrow.
It's going to be quite a production, but they're coming tomorrow to get the hospital bed set up.
Don't know about Sis and Dad, but I feel my anxiety much lightened now things are falling into place. I don't know whether she will recover (or to what extent(, or if these are her last days. She'll be comfortable though, and that's what matters.
Alaska voters seem very likely to approve an initiative implementing ranked choice voting along with a nonpartisan primary where the top four candidates advance to the general election. That would allow Murkowski to act as an independent. If there should be a split decision in Georgia, that would overnight make Murkowski one of the most powerful senators, able to tip tie votes either way, or even decide the majority leader by switching caucus.
Certainly she could--she doesn't owe the GOP much after they refused to nominate her and she won as a write-in candidate.
If she feels she can act like an independent — and not risk being knocked out in a Republican primary— she could tip control of the Senate depending on the issue. If it's a 49D-51R Senate and she votes with Democrats, VP Harris would break a tie. If fMcConnell refused to bring a bill to the floor, she could threaten to caucus with Democrats, making Schumer majority leader. And even if it's a 50-50 Senate, remember that Joe Manchin might need some counterbalancing. Of course it wouldn't last long, so everyone would have to make the best of it.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission said Monday that if President Trump’s campaign wants a recount of the razor-thin presidential race in the state, it will need to pay $7.9 million upfront, CNN reports.

Listener, that's great about the pumpkins for pigs. Completely logical.
ReplyDeleteI've seen truckloads of surplus pumpkins fed to cattle.

I'm very glad to hear of the progress, Cat. Take care, and hugs to all.

DeleteGlad to hear things are progressing. And hoping for your Mom's gradual improvement. That often happens after strokes.

In such a case Sen. Murkowski just might bring home a lot of bacon. That's OK.
DeleteIs Murkowski thinking of going Indy?
