37: Golden Foliage Day

  1. Trump Confounds Aides In Run Up to Debate [Click] Yep, attention span of a guppy. It’s a good bet that his answers to questions will be non-responsive because he either won’t understand or won’t remember them. IMO.

    1. And folks will say it’s okay because that’s just how DT talks. But if Biden stumbles on a word, they’ll say he’s incompetent.
I’d turn it into a drinking game, but then I’d miss the second half of the debate..

"It’s practically impossible to capture the burning desire of millions of Americans to rid the nation of Trump, but here’s one example. Earlier this month, the state of Virginia opened in-person early voting. In a Democratic-leaning district, hundreds of people queued from early in the morning to wait in line for hours to cast their ballot – 50 days before election day. Indeed, every day that goes by without Trump erasing his polling deficit makes it that much harder for him to win. By next week, more than a million Americans will have participated in early voting. In the battleground state of North Carolina, 20% of all requested mail-in ballots have already been sent back."

"I will cast my vote for Joe Biden on Nov. 3. It will be my first vote for a Democratic candidate for president of the United States. But it is not the first time I have said “no” to Donald Trump. I urge my fellow Pennsylvanians to join me."

    "

Donald Trump has proven over these last four years he is incapable of such leadership. It is not within him. He lacks the empathy, integrity, intellect and maturity to lead. He sows division along political, racial and religious lines. And he routinely dismisses the opinions of experts who know far more about the subject at hand than he does – intelligence, military, and public health. Our country has paid dearly in lives lost, social unrest, economic hardship and our standing in the world.

“While I do not agree with many of Biden’s policies, I do know him to be a decent man who can begin to undo the damage President Trump has caused.”
    Tom Ridge

With just about one month until Election Day, President Trump continues to claim the only way he can possibly be defeated is a rigged election. Can you imagine the hubris? Can you imagine any other president in our lifetime — or ever — saying something so dangerous and un-American? We are in the midst of a health crisis, when we should be doing all we can to help citizens vote safely, yet he continues to cast doubt on the sanctity of the vote. He’s done so multiple times here in Pennsylvania. It’s deplorable, yet utterly consistent with past reprehensible behavior."

""Her name was Breonna Taylor and she was shot to death in her bed by three white police officers, who will not be charged with any crime for her death," the 59-year-old Academy Award winner and human rights activist said.

"I know the community. I know the commonwealth. And I was taught in the schools and churches of Kentucky what is right and what is wrong. I’m ashamed of this decision," Clooney added."

    1. Scrolling down I find a SC poll result: Graham 43%, Harrison 45%. [Click] This is only one poll, and from an organization I haven’t heard of, using unknown (to me) methodology; but it seems to continue a trend. I like it!

  9. Bizarro coming from an administration that abandoned the Kurds and also Iraqis who risked their and their families’ lives to serve as translators for US forces:

“The United States has told the Iraqi government and its diplomatic partners that it’s planning a full withdrawal from its sprawling embassy in Baghdad unless Iraq reins in attacks on personnel linked to the American presence there — a move that Iraqi officials said caught them by surprise,” the Washington Post reports.

    4. Trump paid a total of $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and the same amount in 2017. He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years — largely because he reported losing more money than he made.
In 2010, Trump actually received an income tax refund totaling $72.9 million — all the federal income tax he had paid for 2005 through 2008, plus interest.
The legitimacy of that refund is apparently at the center of the audit fight he’s been waging with the Internal Revenue Service — the audit he regularly uses as an excuse to not release his tax returns to the public.
Although Congress has gone to court seeking Trump’s tax records, some of these records were actually sent to the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation in 2011 and are presumably still there.
Trump is personally responsible for loans of at least $421 million, with most of it coming due within four years. Should Trump be re-elected, his lenders would have to decide whether to foreclose on a sitting president as his income isn’t enough to pay them off.
      Trump is basically broke.

    5. Whoever released this information to the NYT must be placed deep in the IRS, Trump's organization, or his accounting firm. It's risky, certainly; but President Biden will be able to issue a pardon.

    8. Trump's broke. So, that's why he wants to be re-elected - he needs a place to live. Of course, as you point out, he'll get free room and board at Leavenworth. The last point is interesting. I wonder if his health might improve on prison rations? Please don't even suggest a presidential pardon! I want this son of a bitch to do every minute of time any and all prosecutors can squeeze out of the courts.

    9. Oh, I meant that if the person who released Trump's tax returns should be identified and convicted of something or other, Biden could pardon him or her.
