  1. Love the hairstyle. And I'm going to share this article because it's just that good.

"Over the weekend, Republican Steve Schmidt, who ran John McCain's 2008 campaign for president, was interviewed on MSNBC.
In response to a very general question regarding the Trump Presidency, Mr. Schmidt spoke for two solid minutes and gave the most insightful and brutally honest response of what the Trump Presidency has done to our great country.
“Donald Trump has been the worst president this country has ever had. And, I don't say that hyperbolically. He is. But he is a consequential president. And, he has brought this country in three short years to a place of weakness that is simply unimaginable if you were pondering where we are today from the day where Barack Obama left office. And, there were a lot of us on that day who were deeply skeptical and very worried about what a Trump presidency would be. But this is a moment of unparalleled national humiliation, of weakness.”
"When you listen to the President, these are the musings of an imbecile. An idiot. And I don't use those words to name call. I use them because they are the precise words of the English language to describe his behavior. His comportment. His actions. We've never seen a level of incompetence, a level of ineptitude so staggering on a daily basis by anybody in the history of the country whose ever been charged with substantial responsibilities.”
"It's just astonishing that this man is president of the United States. The man, the con man, from New York City. Many bankruptcies, failed businesses, a reality show, that branded him as something that he never was. A successful businessman. Well, he's the President of the United States now, and the man who said he would make the country great again. And he's brought death, suffering, and economic collapse on truly an epic scale."
"And, let's be clear. This isn't happening in every country around the world. This place. Our place. Our home. Our country. The United States. We are the epicenter. We are the place where you're the most likely to die from this disease. We're the ones with the most shattered economy. And we are, because of the fool that sits in the Oval Office."

    1. OK, except that it lets his enablers off the hook.

    2. I don't think it does let them off the hook. They all KNOW what he is and they support him anyway. That's guilt by association.

  3. Reposting this, by a friend of Phil*in*Iowa:

T***p is no longer running against Biden. He's now running against the election process itself. He's running against Democracy. PLEASE flood Joni Ernst's office with text messages, emails, and phone calls. Everyone in states with Republican senators. This has to stop.

    1. The above posted is a video of the Evil Turtle falling down. I'm evil. It makes me feel good.

    2. The link brings up this message: "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can." Is it so popular it has busted Facebook? Must be really good!

    3. OK, that works; looks like he needs a ramp.

    4. My evilness of late revolves around coronavirus vaccines. An important step in testing vaccines is to test them for safety and effectiveness in non-human primates (usually rhesus macaques) before doing the same in humans. But! Most of those monkeys are imported from China. And because China presently has an unusual domestic need for them (and probably because of Trump's oh-so-easy to win trade war), it has stopped exporting said monkeys. There have been calls over the years for creation of a US strategic monkey reserve, but it hasn't been done. So, no monkeys, no non-human primate testing.
Couldn't we use Republicans instead of monkeys?

    5. Perfect! Just desserts.
DT wants the vaccine before the Election, but it can't happen because he was so awful to China.
      Serves him right.

  5. From politicalwire.com:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is begging for campaign donations once again, this time on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show. Said Graham: “I’m getting overwhelmed. LindseyGraham.com. Help me. They’re killing me, money-wise. Help me. You helped me last week — help me again. LindseyGraham.com.”

  6. When I got up this morning it was clear enough that I could (faintly) make out the mountains to the northeast; I haven't seen them since the big fires started. Now they have faded out, but that is typical.

  7. OHIO: WHIO still has the Covid numbers from Thursday up. Makes me suspect we're getting a spike and they don't want to report it.

  8. Would you believe? The Chicago Tribune Editorial Board has endorsed Biden.

    1. If you say so, I am perfectly willing to believe it, Bill. Do they customarily refrain from presidential endorsements, or do they usually favor GOP candidates?

    2. They definitely lean conservative, perhaps more conspicuously on state than national politics. Trump being Trump, I wouldn't have been surprised to see them pass on a presidential endorsement this time. But for them to endorse Biden signals just how badly he has turned off a large block of establishment Republicans.

  9. NYT: The Virus Sent Droves to a Small Town. Suddenly, It’s Not so Small. [Click] The population boomed in Winhall, Vt., as people tried to get away from Covid-19 hot spots. Bear Complaints are up. Plumbers are booked until Christmas. And the dump is “sheer pandemonium.”

    1. Having to get accustomed to bears and other things; reminds me of when so many folks left the LA area after the San Fernando quake in 1971 and moved up to coastal Oregon and Washington "where they don't have earthquakes." Except for the biggest ones known in the lower 48. Which raises a question in my mind for listener: I grok that immigrants might have to get used to bears, and probably Lyme disease carrying ticks, maybe a few rattlesnakes; but is there any plague in Vermont?

      Delete
    2. Ha! I'd never even heard of Winhall, Vermont! So I looked it up and it's way down in Bennington County, closer to Cat in MA than to me!

I'm not aware of any plague save COVID-19, and we have the least of it in the country. I'm pretty sure they mean folks came into southern Vermont from neighbouring MA and NY and perhaps further. A couple days ago someone posted on the Burlington, Vermont Facebook page saying they are coming to VT for Hallowe'en and wanted to know where the fun spot are. Another person suggested they check out our State requirements for quarantining if coming from outside Vermont. The person said she'd done that, thanks.
I got curious and checked out her Facebook info. Ohhhh myyyy! They're planning to come to Vermont for a few days from none other than Mobile County, Alabama! Given that there needs to be fewer than 400 active cases per million to come here without quarantining, that means her county could have up to about 1000 active cases and she'd be okay. But her county has 19,897 active cases!!!
So I carefully worded a response asking her to respect our State requirements, as I can't see my children and grandchildren who live in Maine because their county can only have up to 85 active cases and they currently have about 180, while her county has 19,897 active cases. She took the post down.

We sure don't need folks bringing more of the virus here!!!

  10. From a nominal 170 lbs of grapes (making allowance for those we gave away and ate ourselves as table grapes), we ended up with about 48 lbs of raisins.
