True story. After a humid day in the 90s, this evening some severe thunderstorms cropped up. Winds hit 60mph, there was heavy rain, impressive lightning and thunder, and a little bit of small hail.
We hardened lefties need to be careful; that's why I don't scold people in stores to cover their noses (and sometimes even their mouths!) with the masks they are "wearing." People have been killed for that.
Yeah, I'm with you. I don't intend to help the ticket, but I'm also not going to cast aspersions on it. I'll listen to their message. We need to be prepared. I like the way you expressed it, Susan: I'm voting against DT and Pence.
Whether I like what she stands for or not, Harris will add energy to an otherwise lackluster ticket.
OHIO; As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been at least 104,248 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 3,734 deaths, and 11,901 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
Biden is giving a reasonably good speech. I appreciate that he mentioned some of the bigger issues we need to address, such as the pandemic and science, climate change and DT's plan to destroy Social Security.
He did, at one point, refer to Kamala as Camel-a. I imagine he'll get that right yet.
The best thing about her being VP would be that the VP really does little, and doesn't really make the platform agenda or the approach. She just gets to support the President's agenda. So her tendency to change her views is a plus in this one role. We can't trust her the way would could someone else. But at least she's articulate and energetic. After the 4 years we've had, I can live with these two. I just wish the election were tomorrow and we could get this over with.
So, today's speeches feel like "the beginning of the end" of DT's Admin. And that's something.
Wil and I plan to watch at least part of the Convention. I think we mostly need to hear some other voices than the ones we've heard for too long. Pretty sad that the old Democratic talking points sound halfway decent these days. But it's a step in the right direction, even if it doesn't go far enough.
We still need to flip the Senate or nothing much good can happen.
Apparently one of the weirder effects of the pandemic: The credit card I wanted to use for the balance last night turns out to have expired. When I called customer service, they said the replacement card was scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Normally it would have arrived more than a month ago, well before the expiration date.

It was a dark and stormy night.

Funny how little gets your attention like the lights flickering.

ReplyDeleteWell, she has maybe three years to make her case. I won't rule it out.

ReplyDeleteFrom the Washington Post; so far I haven’t found it elsewhere. Is Kamala D. Harris a liberal extremist or a snub to liberal extremists? The GOP can’t decide. [Click] Their attacks are flip-flopping furiously. Obviously they failed to settle on a propaganda line in advance. Which [big surprise!] betrays political incompetence.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I keep my hands off my keyboard on Kamala, at least on Facebook. Not going to provide ammo to Republicans.

ReplyDeleteBiden & Harris were all ready to give their first press event, but the power was out at the school they were to do so in.

Where Kamala Harris stands on the issues: Race, policing, health care and education. This makes her sound better than I'd thought, especially on Medicare for All. But it also brings out how her position has shifted over time, not always for the better.
