... Connecticut, Minnesota and Wisconsin too

Since I am not working at the polls today,
I made cookies for those who are.

  1. Maybe some runoffs in California? No voting hereabouts that I know of.

  2. The coronavirus pandemic is reshaping spending patterns, creating new winners and losers. [Click] There is a new Tractor Supply Co. near our house; I have been in it a couple of times and its inventory strikes me as an incoherent mashup.

    1. Nothing more than a bit of thunder and rain at my house. Lights flickered a bit. But someone maybe a half mile away lost power for four hours.

    1. It's hard to know what that means, really, since the VP hasn't been announced yet. Would the VP pick already be listed or not?

    2. The VP would presumably not be one of the announced speakers. But that is getting close to classical kremlinology.

  5. Biden Holds Small Lead In Georgia
August 11, 2020 By Taegan Goddard

A new SurveyUSA poll in Georgia finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump in the presidential race, 46% to 44%.
In the U.S. Senate race, Sen. David Purdue (R) is ahead of challenger Jon Ossoff (D), 44% to 41%.
In the other U.S. Senate race — a special election jungle primary — Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) leads with 26%, followed by Doug Collins (R) and Raphael Warnock (D) both at 17%.

So Warnock has come up considerably since the previous poll, which was quite a while back--two months, as I recall.

    1. Really, really hard to believe that Louisiana doesn't hold its primary until November. What are these people thinking of? And there's four or five in September, which I find totally surprising.

    2. Good catch!

Turns out their primary (D) and (R) was held on July 11th!

  10. OHIO;As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been at least 102,826 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 3,708 deaths, and 11,760 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

  11. At 200,000 excess deaths and counting since March 15th, US coronavirus-associated deaths have exceeded the death tolls of Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings combined. It is SIXTY-SEVEN times the death toll of the September 11th attacks.

  12. Biden's VP pick is ...

    Kamala Harris

    (And is anyone surprised?)

    (And is anyone not disappointed?)

    1. As my good wife has pointed out, with considerable justice, anyone whom I support for political office seems to be doomed. I still hope that I may live to see the day come when the Democratic Party again nominates someone for whom I truly WANT to vote. But this is again not the year.

    2. Maybe we will get a better US senator out of the deal.

  13. Just going to make it harder to vote for him. I loathe her.

    1. And you live in a state that could go either way, so a protest vote would be a bad idea. My sincere sympathies. Which together with three bucks might buy you a cup of coffee.

    2. Oh, I'm voting AGAINST TRUMP. That's the only way I can swallow this bitter pill. Can't say I'm terribly surprised because Kamala has the same punitive view against people that Biden does. I'm not saying anything against them on FB because I'm sure the GOP and the trolls have that covered. I hope they win, but I'm not cutting them any slack and will be loud in my disagreement.

  14. Not the birthday present I was looking for: Penny and I learned today that our primary physician, who we very much liked, has "left the practice" (retired). I suppose it was inevitable. He is younger than us, but not by enough we could reasonably expect him to continue working throughout our lives.

    3. Thanks. Yes, Penny and I went out for a birthday dinner at Hemingway's Bistro. I had smoked salmon appetizer, delicious baked halibut, and carrot cake (free). A couple of glasses of very nice champagne accompanied it. Penny had a salad and scallops, but was unhappy that the scallops came with capers. It also turned out that the six-block walk was a major strain for Penny. In retrospect, we probably should have ordered takeout to have at home.

    4. Thanks. Yes, Penny and I went out for a birthday dinner at Hemingway's Bistro. I enjoyed it very much, including two glasses of special champagne, but the six-block walk was almost too much for Penny.

    7. My favorite, but Penny is now quite adamant that she doesn't like it. Off the list for the two of us. But when we get back to in-person book discussions (hope, hope) that is one of the group's favorites for our after-discussion dinner.

    1. Full disclosure: I voted for Harris for Senator, because her opponent, although a "Democrat," was so decidedly obnoxious, a real right-wing stinker. Granted, she represented a very right-wing district, and replaced right wing Republican lunatic.

  16. Completely off the track. I have discovered I hate the herb rosemary. The saying goes "Rosemary for remembrance". Yeah, because rosemary tastes like an attic smells...the place where your memories are stored.

    1. Really? How funny, because this Summer I planted my very first herb garden. And I have discovered that I *love* a little fresh Rosemary added to sautéed onions or meats.

Maybe it's like Cilantro where some love it and some (like myself) think it tastes like soap?

so I guess they figured they'd go with my recommendation."

  20. FUN FACT:

In 2016, Vermont set a record for Primary votes of 120,000.

As of Monday morning, 104,000 *absentee* ballots had already been cast.
Waiting to hear if we broke the old record, but it seems likely!
