  1. Trump’s Aides Keep Him in ‘Positive Feedback Loop’ [Click]

President Trump’s aides selectively present him with flattering comments about him and charts that make him look good to keep him in a “positive feedback loop” on the coronavirus pandemic, the Washington Post reports.
Said one official: “Everyone is busy trying to create a Potemkin village for him every day. You’re not supposed to see this behavior in liberal democracies that are founded on principles of rule of law. Everyone bends over backwards to create this Potemkin village for him and for his inner circle.”

You don’t see it in any competent government. I’m sure it wasn’t seen in Antonio Salazar’s government, and Fidel Castro couldn’t have held office so long if he had been subjected to it.

    1. It's worth noting that there was never any pretense of peaceful protest. The social media campaign urged people to "go downtown," with looting the obvious purpose.

  7. https://www.ecowatch.com/canada-ice-shelf-collapse-2646937803.html

"The massive break was first noticed by ice analyst Adrienne White of the Canadian Ice Service, the AP reported.

"This is a huge, huge block of ice," White told the AP. "If one of these is moving toward an oil rig, there's nothing you can really do aside from move your oil rig."

The break resulted from polar amplification, which causes the Arctic to warm faster than the rest of the world, Business Insider reported. For example, today's polar ice caps are melting six times faster than in the 1990s.

"Above normal air temperatures, offshore winds and open water in front of the ice shelf are all part of the recipe for ice shelf break up," the Canadian Ice Service said on Twitter, according to Reuters."

  12. Well, well, well. I had been getting very impatient with the IRS about my refund. I filed electronically in late May and they kept saying my return was still being processed. But when I checked today they said less of our Social Security income was taxable than I'd thought, so I'll get $800 more than I claimed. I guess it was worth waiting.

    1. All in all, that's pretty hard to complain about. I sure hope that the Dems get around to increasing the number of IRS examiners--they haven't had enough people to do the job for a long time, and the hanky-panky among high earners sounds like very low hanging fruit to me.

Among other disasters, I suppose the athletes won’t have any excuse to cut classes.
