Bernie Sanders Supporters Have Every Right to Be Furious (click!)
"... You didn’t listen to us in 2016 when we said Hilary Clinton was unelectable. You didn’t listen to us when we said Donald Trump had a real chance at winning. But you blamed the entire catastrophe on the handful of us who didn’t vote for your candidate.
"... You didn’t listen to us in 2016 when we said Hilary Clinton was unelectable. You didn’t listen to us when we said Donald Trump had a real chance at winning. But you blamed the entire catastrophe on the handful of us who didn’t vote for your candidate.
"And now the second Bernie Sanders suspends his 2020 campaign, you’re all over us to commit to your boy, Joe Biden.
"We’ve been here before. We have a pretty good idea how this story ends. Maybe you’d do well to listen to us for once. ..."
Yep, that pretty well says it.
ReplyDeleteSo guess who got poison ivy from clearing out the leaf debris from the stones along our house? It’s a fairly mild case, though mean enough.. But now I have to find out where the darn plant is!
ReplyDeleteOut here we have Toxidendron diversilobum [poison oak] [Click] Would I be correct to assume you have Toxidendron radicans? [Click] The leaves are quite different. Wikipeidia says there are both eastern and western varieties of poison oak and poison ivy.
DeleteYep, that's the stuff. We also have Poison Oak and Poison Sumac. But Poison Ivy remains the most common bane.
DeleteGee--three different kinds! Lucky you!

Trump Plots ‘Small County’ Strategy to Win Re-Election [Click] By Doug Sosnik, political director in the Clinton administration. It’s a deep dive, but to summarize:
ReplyDelete1)Trump needs to win the Sunbelt states he won in 2016—Arizona, Florida and North Carolina, plus Pennsylvania or Michigan.
2) He is focusing on Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and
3) In those states he is focusing on turning out people thought likely to vote for him, i.e. non-college educated whites in small rural counties.
Eligible citizens who didn’t vote in 2016:
Michigan:
Non-college white: 1,563,809
College white: 412,191
Non-white: 643,000
Pennsylvania:
Non-college white: 2,289,875
College white: 603,125
Non-white: 695,000
Wisconsin:
Non-college white: 819,356
College white: 160,644
Non-white: 306,000
To say that this is a narrow path is quite an understatement, especially given that the Covid-19 epidemic is just now starting to have a strong effect on rural counties, as control measures are relaxed in at least some such areas and the Administration continues trying to completely destroy Obamacare. (I figure that if they destroy Obamacare, that will make Medicare For All an easy lift for a Democratic Congress and President.)
Among other things in the paper, there is a graph of voter participation in midterm elections since 1900; the 2018 turnout was greater than any other since 1914.
DeleteOn re-reading the post I realized I had omitted something:
Delete3) In those states he is focusing on turning out people thought likely to vote for him, i.e. non-college educated whites in small rural counties WHO DID NOT VOTE IN 2016.
