Autumn Joy Sedum in Spring

  1. Side note: there is no shortage of people who cover their mouths with masks but not their noses. Today I picked up an item at a small hardware store, and the woman who brought it out for me had a type of mask generally used only by medical personnel—it looks kind of like a duck’s bill. She had NO IDEA of how to put it on! Her nose was maybe kind of covered, but her mouth not at all! It couldn't have been sealed even around her nose. People being so up-tight about such things, I didn’t say anything to her. I was wearing the same kind (I had several on hand in case of need, from years ago), and hope seeing someone wearing it properly might make an impression on her.

    3. New cases are still spiking in Illinois even as there are strong hints that Pritzker will move us to Phase 3 next month. Among other things, Phase 3 will allow small-group meetings. Sit-in restaurants won't open until Phase 4, though.

  6. The Tribune reports that Tammy Duckworth is being considered for Biden's VP pick. I wouldn't have thought she had the national name recognition for that. But the fact her positions on major issues are not well known could possibly be considered an advantage.

    1. Her personal history of service would also be quite a contrast with Cadet Bonespurs.

  7. I was in a Zoom meeting today when a text message scrolled across my screen telling me that my younger sister's daughter tested positive for COVID-19, in Massachusetts, near Boston. She was told to go directly to the hospital by ambulance. She is a single mom with an 8 month old baby, and they live with my sister. So my sister was tending her grandbaby and waiting to hear more.

Mama not only has COVID-19, she has a sinus infection, kidney infection and yeast infection, poor woman! She is home this evening, though, with meds. Meanwhile, as I spoke with my sister, I heard both her and the baby cough a little. Heh. They are going to be tested next. My sister spent the day tending the baby and disinfecting their apartment. She usually works in the kitchen of a restaurant, but it is closed. The owner kept paying all the staff and simply gave them new work to do. My sister has been sewing cloth masks all this time.

    2. Thanks, Susan ❤️

They’re poor, and Mama smokes, and was diagnosed with diabetes as a child mostly due to atrocious diet). I think that’s been under control, but not sure. This can’t help.
