Local Walk: Pine Cone

  1. Okay, I'm a psycho. I'm so angry I can't sleep. I got an email from Katie Porter, and I'm sure it's mass mailing. But she made a point of saying she endorses Joe Biden and asking me to DONATE MONEY TO THAT POS. He's already got all the money he needs from big donors and corporations and I'll be damned if he's getting on penny from me. No help at all. It's bad enough that I have to vote for the frail wisp of a man, but I'm not helping him! No money, no phone calls, no door knocking, no yard signs. The damned DNC wanted him so badly they sabotaged Bernie so let THEM help him. He's still sitting in his damned basement in front of the same old bookshelves that I am sick of seeing. What a loser.

    1. Yeah, I hear you. Maybe you need to let some of the DNC people hear you too? How about sending some Dean Dollars (Bernie Dollars!) like we did in the old days, and include a little card with your sentiments?

    2. Susan, you don't have to vote for Biden. Vote for Howie Hawkins. At least look at his web site and get on his mailing list. And unsubscribe from every list that pisses you off. If that means hitting "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of every e-mail you get for a few days, then do it. Believe me, you'll feel much better for the exercise.

    3. Susan ~~ These days candidates can't in fact get all the money they need from big donors and corporations. Grassroots contributions are essential. Which is not in any way to suggest you should donate to Biden. He has, or should have, his own grassroots supporters.

Cat ~~ Susan is right. If your state isn't an absolute lock -- which Ohio certainly isn't -- you need to vote against Trump. And the only way to do that is to mark your ballot for Biden.

    4. Sorry, Bill, didn't think of that. I get so used to living in an ultrablue state, I sometimes forget not everyone on this blog does. Your reminder makes me extremely thankful. There's no way in Hell I could bring myself to vote for Biden! Sending love and strength to those who must steel themselves to do so! ♥

  3. Thanks, Alan! Today I bought this oximeter. It, too, arrives April 30th. Just $21! Not bad!

    2. Nope. Check again. They keep running out, then adding 10 more. The site says they have now sold 97% of them though.

    1. Yesterday's total of new cases was the highest ever, but that partially reflects increased testing.

  5. OHIO; COVID 14,694 and 656 deaths.

In November we will have two nominees for President that I really hate. In this case I will vote for the one I hate less, which would be Bye Done. Have you seen his group that calls themselves Ridin' with Biden? For truth in advertising it should be called "Hidin' with Biden".

Gov. DeWine is still, so far, planning to "gradually reopen Ohio" beginning May 1. WAY TOO SOON and Ohioans are going to pay the price.

    1. It sounds like Midwestern governors' compact to coordinate reopening had about as much value as the number zero.

  7. Elizabeth Warren's eldest brother, Don, has died of COVID-19. He died Tuesday evening, without family present.

  8. Susan, Biden's got $187,000,000 gap lower than Trump

    1. He's also causing the deaths of far fewer people. That is likely to be politically important.

    2. Very true. But I have no faith that Bye Done will be awake enough to capitalize on that fact.

    3. puddle, I hope the DNC won’t waste money trying to win over DT supporters. You can’t fix stupid.

    4. In 2016 there were people for whom the two viable choices were Bernie or DT. They were the two who spoke to the working class against the establishment that ignored them. Whether the same will be true in 2020 remains to be seen. To quote an article I read, "The Democratic Party may not see working people, but working people have seen Donald Trump."

  9. The DNC should have considered that before they picked him. I feel like enough of a whore just having to vote for him. Damned if I'm paying him on top of it. Plus, fixed income here, favorite daughter working three jobs just to keep her family afloat. Helping her, don't give one sh.t about Bye Done. There are about 23 down ballot candidates I am supporting like Amy McGrath, Sara Gideon, Tedra Cobb, Paula Jean Swearingin and so on. I'm counting on increasing Progressives in Congress to counteract trump because I believe he will cheat his way in again. The Democratic Party and the DNC are hurting for donations because they REFUSE to represent us and just expect our donations "because". Nope, not gonna happen.

    1. Amen. Bernie was exceptional in California because he did something mainstream Democratic candidates had not done in I don't know how long--he actually campaigned in the state. Standard Dem behavior is to have big-money fundraisers in Hollywood and the lower San Francisco Peninsula and then flee the state. Bill Clinton visited California from time to time, Obama (for but one example) turned his back on us (once at least, literally).

  10. A smart friend wrote to me:
“When fewer than 10% of the tests are coming back positive, then a) we are testing enough and b) things can begin to open up safely.”

Well, 5.6% of tests in Vermont are coming back positive. And 5.2% of those cases result in death. We can begin to open, then pause to see how that much affects the data. I am grateful that Gov. Scott is taking it slow.

  12. Well, I'll say this much for Biden...

Today DT suggested that to rid the body of COVID-19 we might find a way to get UV Light inside us, or maybe, since disinfectant kills it, we should inject ourselves with disinfectant.

Doctors quickly decried these ideas, explaining that taking in disinfectant is one of the ways people commit suicide.

Biden said: How about, instead, we do more testing and get our medical staffs PPEs?

    3. What I wanna know is, first, what took Mr. Brilliant so long to come up with these, like, I mean, brilliant ideas and, second, when's he gonna inject himself with disinfectant and put us all out of his misery?
