Fresno County as of yesterday had 6 confirmed cases, only one community-acquired, and no deaths. I think no one is hospitalized, just quarantined at home. Population 995,000 compared to Vermont’s 624,000. And we’re locked down, which is a damned nuisance, but nothing compared to certain of the alternatives. It's mind-boggling that the virus spreads so fast.

Right. I have absolutely no clue what TPTB have in mind for the long run. It's an absolute certainty that dome, say, the end of May there will be far more active cases than there are now. But I can't really see lockdown extending through July, August, September. What's the long-term plan? Do they even know?
A terribly cynical person (not I, certainly) might suggest that their long-term planning extends only as far as the third martini. Or that they are chowderheads.
Don't recall how I got on Sen. Merkley's mailing list, but here's a message hot out of the inbox;
Cat,
In this moment of urgency and crisis, it's critical that the federal government step up first and foremost to address the needs of the families that are most impacted.
We can't let the government response to this emergency be simply bailing out powerful and well-connected industries while working families and small businesses are crushed.
It's early but we've had some successes. Elizabeth Warren and I called for a nationwide moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development just agreed to do that for the properties they control — protecting some 8 million families.
When it comes a stimulus package, my priorities are these:
We must prioritize helping working families and small businesses weather this storm, not help the wealthy and well-connected. We must ensure that no one is in danger of losing basic utilities — power, water, telecommunications, and broadband. If we do provide help to major corporations, we must demand good behavior in return: paid sick leave, no stock buybacks, maintain payrolls. We must do everything we can to support our health care system and our medical first responders.
This crisis demands that we set aside partisanship and do what's best for the American people. I'm pushing with everything I've got to get that done.
There are now 247 confirmed cases of COVID in Ohio. There are so few tests they are not testing people until they are extremely ill and having trouble breathing. For one or two death came before the test results.
Yesterday it was 67 degrees. Today it is 33. Nothing works right any more. Not our weather, not our government, not our country, not the world.
I'm just making face masks because I don't know what else to do. I have an appointment with my ophthalmologist Monday, so I'll carry along a few in case they need them. I found a better pattern that has the wire inside so you can mold it over your nose so your glasses don't fog up. It also has a pocket on the back so you can insert more filtering material if you wish.
Well, sewing keeps me off the streets and out of the gangs....at least for now.
I've just seen a story from ScienceInsider that antibodies to other, mild coronaviruses start to fade after a few months. All we know for sure about antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 is that they are still strong after a month.
Fresno County so far has not confirmed a coronavirus case spread by community transmission.
The Public Health Department announced three new positive cases on Friday, bringing the total to six. Five of them were travel-related. No one has been hospitalized locally or died from COVID-19.
Wow--another twenty positive tests for coronavirus in Vermont today, for a total of 49; two deaths, and a number hospitalized. Be very careful, listener!
Fresno City College has been closed for six days, shelter in place orders in effect for the city of Fresno for three days and throughout California for two days. It seems a lot longer.
