    1. Thanks, Alan.

That is a heartwarming story. Sad the ring wasn’t found just a few years ago, but what a treasure and what a kindness. Y’know, I think social media has made us all feel more like world citizens.

  3. Topless Protesters Jump on Stage with Bernie Sanders
February 17, 2020 By Taegan Goddard

Topless protesters stormed the stage at a Nevada rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders and later found themselves in police custody, the Washington Examiner reports. “The two women poured milk on themselves and walked around shouting until security escorted them offstage, according to footage of the incident, which circulated online. The crowd continued to make raucous noise while attendees waited for the protesters to get off the stage.”

Sanders joked about the incident later: “This is Nevada, there’s always a little excitement at no extra cost.”

    1. It’s a world gone crazy.

      Bernie’s quip helps.

    2. Sounds more like Las Vegas than Nevada in general; I haven't yet looked up the venue.

    3. What were they "protesting", pray tell?

    4. They were animal rights protestors, protesting government support for the dairy industry. The rally was in Carson City.

  4. Union organizing drives at hospitals accelerating [Click] Chicago featured. I should think that the teachers actions have inspired other workers. A Democratic president’s appointments to the National Labor Relations Board should help.

Ocasio-Cortez faces 13 challengers [Click] “Anything that indicates AOC is vulnerable would be godsend to people who don’t like her…” said veteran Democratic party strategist Hank Sheinkopf, warning: “Politics are unstable across the nation. Things are happening that we haven’t seen or thought about before.” What do you mean, “we,” White Eyes?

    1. teachers actions = teachers' actions

    2. I wanted to mention that SEIU has sponsored the Disability Pride Parade for a number of years. I'm not clear what teachers have to do with it: different industry and different employment situation (government vs. private).

    3. The more challengers the more thinly her opposition is spread.

    4. Teachers across the country have been in the forefront of union organizing drives and strikes lately. They have shown other workers what they can do.

    5. I guess that's a matter of where you are in the country. In the Chicago area neither teachers' strikes nor SEIU Healthcare organizing activity are particularly new. But maybe you're referring to news coverage rather than the activity itself.

    6. That's right, Bill--news coverage. I am reminded of when the workers at my place of employment set up a picket line. The union field agent said he greatly preferred doing such things in the Central Valley because they attracted the attention of the newspapers and TV stations (as ours did). He said that in the San Francisco Bay Area you were likely to get no attention if you set yourself on fire.

  5. I had an unusual dream last night. I have a friend in the Phoenix area and in the dream I traveled to Phoenix to help with Bernie's election-day campaign.

  6. Fabulous letter and see how many college presidents signed it!

Letter to DT from NY college presidents on the difficulties colleges face from this Administration’s immigration policies, and how it hurts our nation.

    1. Not that it makes a lot of difference, but the letter is not to DT--it is to members of New York's congressional delegation.

Note: I find the signatures themselves interesting; few are legible, and at least one is printed.

    2. Thanks, Alan. Clearly I only skimmed the beginning of the letter. I read a lot of it, though.

    3. The visa restrictions are causing just the same problem here as Brexit in the UK, just bigger because the US is bigger than the UK. Some unknown portion of the damage will be permanent.

  7. Sanders Grabs National Lead [Click] Monmouth poll: Bernie 26%, Biden 16%, Warren 13%, Buttigieg 13%, Bloomberg 11%, Klobuchar 6%. That probably qualifies Bloomberg for the next debate.

Politico: Bernie breaks out of the pack [Click] “In Nevada, rival campaigns privately concede the race is for second or third place.” I love the quote at the end— it’s right on target IMO: “The establishment,” [Norman Solomon] said, “seems almost clueless about what they have to offer.”

Bloomberg’s Campaign Too Big To Ignore [Click] “The Death Star of presidential campaigns.” That could be where the Anybody But Bernie” crowd migrates—but they will have to sell their souls (if they have any). But why not sell their souls if they aren’t using them? [With apologies to Robert Johnson and O Brother, Where Art Thou?]

    1. That's it exactly, no souls. What can you expect. They've spent so much time and energy trying to be Republicans, that finally they've managed it.

    3. Does Bloomberg have enough individual donations to satisfy the debate requirements? No. But the Dems are letting him be in the debate anyway. I think he shouldn’t have even been allowed to join the race so late.

Jeff Weaver, campaign manager for Bernie Sanders was interviewed by Brooke Baldwin on CNN:

BALDWIN: If Senator Sanders ends up being the nominee — and we know Mike Bloomberg has pledged to donate as much as one billion dollars in an effort to defeat President Trump — would you accept his money?

    WEAVER: No.

    1. New Nevada Poll [Click] The accuracy of the turnout model is not certain, but it has a reasonably large sample:

      Sanders 35%, Warren 16%, Buttigieg 15%, Biden 14%, Klobuchar 9%.
Bernie showing particular strength with young and Latino voters.
