A new Change Research poll in South Carolina finds Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders tied at 23% support each, followed by Tom Steyer at 20% and Pete Buttigieg at 15%.
New Wall Street Journal/NBC Poll [Click] Sanders crushes Bloomberg 57% to 37%, and Buttigieg 54% to 38%. Bernie is first choice of 27%, but 65% of likely Democratic primary voters are enthusiastic or at least comfortable with his candidacy—more than any other candidate. WHEEEEEEE!
Thinking about the question regarding Bernie's general election campaign taking huge amounts of Bloomberg money, it occurs to me that the question is fallacious from the start. No individual can contribute more that $2700 to any campaign other than his/her own. Bloomberg's money would necessarily go to a PAC that, by law, cannot coordinate with a campaign. So Bernie's campaign has nothing to say about it.
But that doesn't stop MSNBC et al from casting Bloomberg as the beneficent godpapa and the Sanders campaign as ungrateful and petulant. Facts don't matter nearly as much as perception from the standpoint of cable news. And they'll use any tool at hand, be that facts, halftruths or lies to smear Bernie.
The top news story in today's Tribune was Trump's commutation of ex-Gov Rod Blagoevich's sentence. A column noted that impeached Trump and impeached Blogoevich are two of a kind.
“For the first time, Nevada’s Democratic Party offered early voting ahead of Saturday’s caucuses. Voters filled out ballots indicating their top three choices for president. The votes will be added to the totals from some 2,000 precinct caucus meetings on Saturday.”
“About 84,000 people participated in the state’s Democratic presidential caucuses in 2016.”
Posting after the debate is over, I agree with listener. Bernie was Bernie and I think both Butiegieg and Klobuchar did well. Biden had a good thing on climate but was otherwise rather bland as usual. Washington experience isn't what it's all about. But overall, our local NBC channel was right to describe it as the most contentious debate to date.

(1) We’re 10 minutes in, and Bloomberg is getting rocked. Elizabeth Warren got it going with a withering fusillade on Bloomberg’s treatment of women. Quickly, everyone else piled on.
(2) Elizabeth Warren started the night off with a slashing attack on Michael Bloomberg from which he doesn’t yet seem to have recovered. But in her next go around, Warren launched broadsides against Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and to a lesser extent Sanders, over their health care plans. She followed up with another sharp line of attack on Buttigieg and Klobuchar.
(3) Just returning quickly to the Elizabeth Warren evisceration of Michael Bloomberg:
(4) Elizabeth Warren spent the first hour of the debate mopping the floor with Michael Bloomberg.
(5) Warren goes after Bloomberg over NDAs concerning alleged sexual harassment at his company
And what a busy news day. Our TV station hardly knew what to cover. There was the debate and there was Blagojevich and there was the release of the state budget and there was the warning from the airports about chaos October 1 because people aren't able to get their Real IDs. Not to mention the weather.
Is there some problem with getting Real ID's in Illinois, Bill? Out here the Department of Motor Vehicles started warning people way in advance. Miyoko had just renewed her driver's license when the Real ID licenses became available, but she can use her passport. I think it was last year when I renewed my license, so I just took along the necessary documents and got the Real ID; piece o' cake.
Apparently the lines are very long. The TV station talked to someone who left after an hour and a half and someone else who got theirs in two hours. But this warning is coming from the national airport organization.
I'm not worried. IIRC my passport and Global Access card run for another 7 years. Plenty of time to get Real ID after the rush is over.
Morning horserace, national polls:
