Thanks, Alan. I got several responses to my Song of the South question in various online venues, which led me to conclude I didn't search too thoroughly. Still, it was nice that so many people bothered to help.
Earphones are worth trying.
The idear of Fox News packing the town hall with Sanders supporters and locking out Trump supporters is absurd. But what else is new about what comes out of Trump's mouth?
Re headphones: I don't think I had ever paid more than $20 for a pair. After extensive online research I got a low-end pair of Grados [SR-60] and they were a revelation. I'd say go for the current next step up [SR-80e] in the plastic-bodied models if you are interested in giving them a try, then maybe *consider* moving up to the metal or wood bodied models. There is now a wireless model--looks like machined high-density plastic. Grados are open-back, so the person wearing them can hear some ambient background, and others can faintly hear what is playing on the headphones. After giving the SR-60's a good trial I was going down to San Diego for a court appearance, and there is an audio shop there where I could take a selection of discs and audition the full range of Grados, from modestly priced up to severe angina range and beyond. AND--there was a good sale on (Grados almost NEVER go on sale) to make way for the newer e-series. I was surprised that even with my poor ears I could perceive the differences at each step in the range (as far as I went). I was torn between a pair of PS-500's (metal body) and a pair of RS-1's, either one of which on sale would lay waste to all my profit from the trip, which was my red line on price. The wooden-bodied ones have a warmer but perhaps less accurate sound reproduction than the metal-bodied ones, but they are both great. I went with the RS-1's. I added a (probably unnecessary) vacuum tube headphone amplifier, which also gives a warm sound, compared to digital. The super high-end models that combine both metal and wood in the bodies ought to be fantastic. But well below that level one can really seem to hear the various instruments coming from different places, as if seated in the middle of the orchestra. [Jargon: "large soundstage."] And movie sound tracks that were so indistinct that I had to depend on subtitles are now perfectly clear to me. For me it was one of the best purchases I ever made--it opened a door to audio experiences I never remembered having. Many people report that Grados have better sound than other brands at twice the price or more. Pardon the rant, but I remain SO pleased with them.
It's not implausible that the people asking to be in the audience were mostly Bernie supporters (some of whom may have been trump supporters in 2016). But the notion that Fox deliberately packed the audience is indeed absurd.
Thanks to Facebook, I can truthfully say, and it's an honor to say it, Les Reed was a friend of mine. Everybody has said much the same thing about Les, who was a dear, kind, wonderfully funny man, a true gentleman and a very talented musician. But one commenter put it perfectly when he observed that Earth has lost a guiding light, but Heaven has gained an angel.
Dear Friends, I am headed to Maine on Maundy Thursday morning to be present on Good Friday for Daughter's baby ultrasound!! (It's a girl this time!!) This is all hush hush until she formally announces the news (probably on Easter Day, but mum's the mantra, please, until you hear from me for sure). Home Saturday in time for dinner and the Easter Vigil, then lots of family Sunday. I believe I have set photos for the main page through the weekend. But if anything goes amiss, the keys are in your hands, Cat. And thank you!!!
My apologies to Mr. Bentley.
ReplyDeleteAbsolution wending your way, Alan. ;-)

Cat, I am so sad for this loss. You must feel it keenly. Sending Love! ♥
