The analogy is not perfect (they never are), but Trump’s idea of a declaring a national emergency on the border sounds very much like Hindenberg's emergency decree following the Reichstag fire, which paved the way for Chancellor Hitler to become dictator of Germany. Remember that Trump’s imposition of import tariffs was based on a spurious claim of national defense, and they have been allowed to stand. I sure hope Congress is preparing to oppose a declaration of emergency.
Very good. It was a very small convention for people who help run science fiction conventions, but included a lot of people from anime cons as well as from the "fannish" cons I do. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences. And everybody was very friendly.
Gingerbread and marshmallows with sparklers! Woot!

I e-mailed both my senators, for what good that will do; but not my representative, since I have none.
DeleteNo, Trump Cannot Declare an ‘Emergency’ to Build His Wall [Click] If he did, and used soldiers to build it, they would all be committing a federal crime.
ReplyDeleteThe question is, does he know that? My guess is that he doesn't know and doesn't care.
