Solidarity!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.  ~ The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States

Apparently DT thinks this doesn't have anything to do with the Executive branch.  Will the Judiciary please clarify?

Meanwhile, here's something wonderful:

White House press corps showing unity after reporter barred from Rose Garden event
"Collins wasn't just in the room with Trump and Juncker on behalf of CNN. She
was the pool reporter on behalf of all the TV networks. This assignment,
sometimes known as pool duty, rotates from TV network to network each day."

    1. One of the organizations whose mailing lists I'm on, and to which I sometimes donate a mite, is Common Defense,an organization of Progressive veterans. The other day I read an e-mail from them in which they said that one of their projects over the past several months has been to organize folks to call in to the hotline set up for people to report crimes by illegal aliens. Members of Common Defense call in and report alien abductions and crop circles and such. Not altogether sure I have the nerve to do it myself, but it's a grand idear.

  3. It definitely looks like there is more smoke this morning than yesterday, but the predicted ground-level air quality is predicted to be improved. Last night when I took my evening constitutional a little after sunet/moonrise, the moon was definitely yellow, and I only walked one km instead of my regular two--my lungs were starting to be noticeably irritated. Predicted high temperature today 106F. But this is not one of the days we are asked to further reduce our electricity use (and charged extra). Our (chosen) regular plan has higher rates during the cooling season from 4PM to 9PM on weekdays, but on a rotating basis (up to 15 days per year) we have (voluntarily) an additional surcharge from 2PM to 7 PM. In exchange we have a lower base rate.

    1. Wow, that all sounds so complex! We bought into a solar array that makes energy in our behalf. This goes into the Green Mountain Power grid, where we get our electricity. We pay a set amount (set for 20 years!) for use of the array, and the array makes so much power in the Summer that we seldom need pay anything at all to the power company. There are no limits on our usage, but the rates are lower after 9pm. So we run the laundry and dishwasher at the end of the day.

Alan, when you mention your temperature, please also include the humidity level. For example, today it is 80-85F and the humidity is ranging from 55% to 84%.

    2. That does sound like a very good electricity arrangement, listener.

As for humidity, the weather prediction for today is (time/temp/humidity):

      6am/75F/47%
      9am/82/43
      noon/97/26
      3pm/104/19
      6pm/103/14
      9pm/94/32
      midnight/83/32

    3. Wow! Those humidity levels are to die for!

    4. They say the humidity increases quite a bit at night because of irrigation. In addition to agricultural irrigation, lawn watering is forbidden during the day. The low humidity makes it easier to become insensibly dehydrated because one's clothing doesn't get wet, or as wet. In recent years there has been a big push around here to educate both agricultural employers and employees about the risks of heat stroke and how to avoid it, which seems to have worked. Heat stroke deaths do seem to have decreased, but have not completely disappeared. It's a bad way to go.

    2. Thanks, Alan. A lady who could make history by becoming Georgia's first black female governor has been vaguely impinging on my consciousness for months. Because of your link, I finally looked into the matter. She's an impressive young woman. I sent her a little love as well.

  5. OT: If anyone needs laser printer toner cartridges, I can recommend the company I have been using for some time now: supermediastore.com. Free delivery for a modest purchase ($25 I think). We have a Brother laser printer/scanner/copier/fax and part of the reason is that Brother uses separate toner cartridges (which don't last as long) and drum units (which do last quite a bit longer than the toner cartridges) to lower operating costs. The stock toner cartridges (high capacity) and drum units seem to have gone up in price lately--$75 and $116 respectively at the office supply store, but the Linkyo brand ones from supermediastore.com cost $15 and $30 and work well. I have rarely had a bad cartridge, and they are replaced quickly and with no questions asked. I have discovered that there seems to be a slight incompatibility between the OEM drum units and the Linkyo cartridges, which may not seat properly. No problem at all with both products from Linkyo.

  6. Why So Many People Are Betting on Beto O'Rourke [Click] He's a Kennedyesque longshot in a roiling red state, but the Democrat from Texas just might have a chance at unseating Ted Cruz.

    1. I have been supporting Beto with small amounts since I first learned of him. I support him and despise Ted Cruz in equal measure, so every time I sent Beto a little pat it's also a sharp stick jab to Cruz.

    2. It hadn't occurred to me that Beto physicall resembles Robert Kennedy, but when it was pointed out I could easily see it. Can't hurt.

  8. I'm doing Storytime tomorrow - reading a story to an unknown number of kids who may come into the bookstore. Last time I don't think they heard one single word of the story I read because they were too focused on coloring. This time I have no craft activity to get into after reading the story, so I'm just going to read and *hope* one of them hears the words. I have learned that I'm not very good with 100% unstructured events. I'd rather stay at home working on the dollhouse I'm building, but I gave my word, so reading it will be.

    3. You'll do fine, Susan. Concentrate on enjoying the story yourself, and something beneficial will get through to the kids.

      Building a dollhouse sounds wonderful!

  9. listener, it's totally random. Last time it was a two-year old and a pre-school brother and sister. Halfway through the story some pre-teens came in and they were *not* interested in "Miss Twiggly's Tree". Tomorrow I'm reading "How Big is The World", no crafts and hoping for the best.

    1. "How Big is The World"
      Ages 3-6

"Little Mole has an enormous question: How big is the world? He knows there’s only one way to find out: leave the molehill and see for himself. And so Little Mole circles the globe, from the frozen north to the vast desert, the tall cities to the huge mountains, the great jungles to the thick forests. Everywhere he goes he meets fascinating animals and discovers new lands. But in the end, as with all little ones, he realizes that no matter how big the world is, there’s no place like home.

"Britta Teckentrup’s luminous art captures the beauty of diverse landscapes, the charm of a menagerie of beasts, and the appeal of one very special, childlike mole."

  10. Oh, such a lovely time! Both boys have grown beards (father and son) and both look terrific! Kids fooled around the crick, tuckered out the dawg, and Tonio and I had a long talk. Daddy worked his butt off.

  11. Vacation day here today--no yard work. We finally got around to testing the new karaoke player we bought to replace the eight year old one that croaked, and discovered it wouldn't work with DVD's (which have been standard for quite some time). Seller will refund the money, no problem. (I had taken the precaution of saving the packaging.) Found the latest model of the one we had before and ordered one.

  12. Spent most of the evening listening to music courtesy of YouTube. Started with a long run of Errol Garner. What a magnificent pianist! The only album of his I have is Concert By The Sea, for some reason. Must look into getting more. I simply can't conceive of having that much talent!

  13. The air quality was definitely better this evening than yestere'en. I see that up above I typed that last night the moon was yellow when it was low in the sky--that should have been "orange." Tonight it was just very faintly orange--closer to yellow. I had no difficulty walking my regular two km.
