It looks like that IL-6 race I mentioned a couple of months ago is a big deal. After Casten and Roskam had the first debate Thursday night, the story was the second lead feature on the Tribune web site. AND a follow-on story was among those featured today. Roskam is trying to halfheartedly distance himself from Trump, but it's not clear how successful he may be.
Fresno yesterday set another record--23 successive days 100F or more, and more expected to come. There seems to be more smoke in the sky again today, mostly or maybe all from the fire up near Yosemite. I was reading about the big fire up near (and even IN!) Redding, at the far northern end of the Central Valley, with fire tornadoes even. And fires (plural) in my home county, a couple hours' drive north of San Francisco. Not good.
It occurred to me after I posted that I should have said "poached" instead of "steamed." [grin]
I went out and did some shopping just now; the smoke is very evident over short distances now--I'd estimate half a mile or so. Maybe we had better refrain from walking this evening. But I'm going out to vacuum the pool now. That should have it fixed up after years of neglect that turned it into more of a pond. Next fairly large house job is a bit of roofing--replacing some broken tiles in an easily accessed spot. AFTER the weather cools off!
After working for an hour or so outside, I thought it better not to go for a walk. The smoke seemed thinner, but that might have just been because the sun was lower in the sky.
