It depends a bit on how much moisture the leaves have been getting. Fortunately, we've been watering our milkweed in this terribly dry Summer, so we're fine. The leaves last about 30-36 hours, once plucked. So I try to swap out at least one leaf per day. The easiest thing is to leave the caterpillars on the milkweed and do what you can to protect the plants.
Trump fears Biden most.[Click] OK, I could go for Joe Biden, but it would depend strongly upon who his running mate is. If it were someone (preferably younger) from the progressive wing of the party, that would be a decent combination. Four years of Biden, then eight yeas of his running mate.
“By the historical standards of Democratic warfare, today’s disputes are like 6-year-olds battling with foam swords.” Well, I think that may be a bit of an exaggeration. But I do remember at least two occasions when the divisions were deeper and more bitter. And that's not even counting 1948.
That is far less rhetorical excess than Lincoln and Douglas used in their debates, but the basic point is well taken. I recall a column not long ago in which the writer opined that if there was a battle going on in the Democratic Party between the Progressives and the Fogeys (or whatever), someone forgot to tell the Democratic voters. I am actively wondering if I will temporarily register as a Democrat for the 2018 primary in California, and if I will vote for the Democratic nominee. I don't rule either one out.
In local news, the retaliatory tariffs on ag exports are beginning to pinch, and there is skepticism among some farmers about how much Trump’s proposed assistance will help. It is not news that many (most?) farmers hereabouts vote Republican. Yosemite Valley has been evacuated as a precaution, as the fire to its west threatens road approaches. I went shopping about 1:45 PM, and the temperature on our street was 94F. When I returned an hour later it was 102F. This is another voluntary spare the electricity day.
And re monarch butterflies, the amazing thing is that the round trip from wintering grounds in Mexico to northern abode and back requires more than one generation!
Just completed the puzzle mode of Bejeweled 2 Deluxe. This entails completing at least four of five puzzles in each of seventeen worlds or planets. When I finished, the game's voice intoned, "Excellent!" the credits rolled and, eventually, a message came up in large letters, "Galaxy Complete."
I'm inordinately pleased with myself for achieving this, since visual games and puzzles are, shall we say, somewhat difficult for me. They are also logic puzzles I suppose, something else I am not good at.
For those unfamiliar with Bejeweled 2 Deluxe's puzzle mode (which is probably everybody), the puzzles involve moving colored game pieces (jewels) in such a way as to clear the board. Sometimes special pieces appear, and various other complications arise. One can get hints. Though I try to avoid using this feature, sometimes it's unavoidable. It can be very helpful to see where one went wrong and then proceed.
How long do the leaves stay fresh in the jar? Do you have to change them out?

Yeah, I would be okay with Joe Biden. He knows what's what, and whom to watch out for. And he's a decent human being who can think for himself.
DeleteWay too much news in the news to summarize today.--

New Polls: Trump’s Numbers Underwater In The Great Lakes States[Click] In the body, the writer states the case rather more colorfully.

Trump starts trade war with EU, EU pushes back, Trump folds like a cheap suit and declares victory. Typical.

Anyway, that's my accomplishment for today.
Congratulations!
