Covered Bridge

  1. Michael Cohen seems to have turned state’s evidence.[Click] It seems that “taking a bullet for the President” is no longer his plan…

From the Most Unfortunate Acronyms Files.[Click] Or has the Deep State so deeply infiltrated the White House? Or are the Trumpets a gaggle of chowderheads? We report, you decide!

    1. Wouldn't have taken Trump as a Monty Python fan.*

*A Python expression that has passed into pop culture is: "I fart in your general direction," which seems to be precisely what this act would do. It might also be called the FU Act. Pretty typical of Trump, actually.

  2. Thanks so much, Puddle. Though that link came up, I wasn't able to read the result; Google Books are not screen reader friendly. :( Problem is, it's the wrong song. There was a song of that title that came up a couple times. Even found it on YouTube by The Decastro Sisters. So, that complicates the search. The one I'm looking for was definitely written by Sonny James and Jim Jones.

In desperation I asked Dad, the Country music aficionado. Never heard of it, though his ears perked up when I said it was written by Sonny James. He said he'd never heard of the song and it's a silly title. Harumph! Anyway, I'm about ready to give up. There's another song in the quiz that I clearly couldn't find a year for. It's no big deal. It just irritated me.

  3. Lol! I *knew* that was too easy! I also know you can't copyright titles, alas. Wisht I'd been more useful.

    2. The Jim Jones I found a link to was the poison Kool-Ade guy....figured he wasn't the one.

    3. LOL I shouldn't think so. I know there was a Jazzman named Jimmy Jones, but that's probably not him either. A lot of Jims and Jimmys out there, and a lot of Joneses.

  4. Whooo! We made it up to 97F today.
It's down to 80 now, but the humidity is also at 80. Heh.

But, we're coping. We only have one portable 8000 BTU A/C unit. It was getting old hanging out in the bedroom all the time, with no chair. Ha! So we brought the unit downstairs and set it up down the hallway, with a big fan on the living room end of the hallway. Works fairly well. It cooled the room at least 10 degrees, and the cool breeze it provided made the afternoon bearable.

    1. We were down to 97 here Monday, from 98 on Sunday. Heat warnings both days, with high humidity and a heat index a good ten degrees above the stated temperature. The heatwave is forecast to continue all week. UGH!

  5. I remember my grandparents' house. They had converted the old sleeping porch into a room for my uncle. It still tended to be pretty chilly. If you know what to look for, you can still see sleeping porches on some of the old houses around here, although with the advent of air conditioning probably all of them have been closed up and insulated. Sun porches were never in significant demand here, but I recall a particularly nice Victorian example in a cooler place where I once lived. We have zoned A/C in our house--cooling the entire place would be excessive. Same for heating.

    1. I've actually slept on a sleeping porch, at Squam Lake in Sandwich, NH.

Our screened porch isn't an option for sleeping, though, because there's a gap under the door that mosquitoes, spiders and even an occasional mouse can get through.

  6. On another topic: Who Milk’s America’s Cows?[Click] The reporters seem not to know about automated milking. Granted, the startup costs are considerable, but the same could be said of tomato picking machines.

  7. While taking my evening constitutional, just about sundown or a bit later, the sky seemed to be full of smoke, but I didn't smell any. I suspect it is from the County Fire, about two hundred miles to the north and spreading very fast. High temperatures, dry grass, humidity 10% and in places even less. It is in a predominantly rural area.

  8. Oh, fires make me sad. Would that I could send you our 80% humidity!
