Please Leave Now, Winter

  1. We are planning to go to the March For Our Lives next Saturday, in Montpelier, Vermont. Just learned that they're expecting 10,000 to 15,000 people!! WOW!! That's HUGE for Vermont!! They say that Bernie is NOT coming to this, but I hope he surprises us.

    1. That sure sounds impressive to me; every lunch wagon and taco truck within driving distance ought to be there! I hope the weather is good. Hmmmm....but you seem to be having snow? We were having such nice warm weather, and winter seemed so finished here, that we put out the epiphytia we had sheltered over the winter a couple of weeks ago and they got clobbered by frost--quite a few killed outright. But we hadn't moved out the considerable number sheltered on our front porch, so will be able to get most of them back again within time.

    2. I see that the weather prediction for Montpelier on 3/24 is 36/23F, no precipitation, some sun, slight breeze out of the north. But folks would have clothing to match, of course.

  2. Catreona, note for you on the last thread, at the note you left for me about the previous thread. 😄👍

  3. His books are usually called supernatural thrillers, and that is true, though they are far more than that as well. He had a remarkable ability to describe good and evil, Heaven and Hell. I'm not explaining very well. You'll have to read his books for yourself. I've read four of his seven novels: The Place of the Lion, Many Dimensions, Descent into Hell and All Hallow's Eve. Of those, you might like best The Place of the Lion. At any rate, it's my favorite.

    1. Awww, too bad. I cannot read or watch thrillers. Nope. Never could. I'm too visual for that... the images never leave me and I don't need reasons to stay awake at night. Ha!

    1. Schwarzenegger turned out a lot better than I anticipated. And he does have a sense of humor!

  5. Well, here's a way you don't want to cap off your evening! Son #2 and I came home from the grocery about 8:30 tonight to find a body in the driveway up near the garage. At first I thought it was an empty bear costume, but no, it was an old man in a black parka and black sweats. My phone WOULD NOT CONNECT with 911, so luckily a couple and their daughter were walking their dog past the house and she was able to get 911 on her phone. Her husband went up to talk to the older man, they told us not to move him so I went in the house and got a blanket because it's really cold and windy tonight!

Anyway, the ambulance and the firetruck came, but then they turned around and went away. Then they came back, so I lit up my phone flashlight and waved it back and forth in the air until they spotted it and came. They escorted the man into the ambulance and they were just going to take him home.. I don't know. He told me he had fainted and hit his head, but I still don't know why he was up by the front of my house.

So he was so feeble and confused and speaking so quietly I thought he must be in his 90's. Nope, turns out the dude is 3 years younger than I am.

Anyway, still slightly rattled and I think it will take a while to settle down again. This isn't going to do my ability to sleep any good and I've been struggling with insomnia for too dang long.

    1. The way the story started off, I thought it was going to be a good bit worse! But you're right, it's no way to cap off the evening. How cold is really cold thereabouts?

    2. 42 with a really hard cold wind blowing.

Plus he was flat out on a blacktop driveway.

    4. WOW, Susan! That sure makes my crazy day seem tame!!

It's a darn good thing you have a strong heart!! I am sending warm thoughts of all the quilts you have sewn and all the hats you have knitted, and hope you have a very gentle night. ❤️

    5. I hope the guy is all right. The description almost sounds like a concussion, but I suppose the EMTs would be taking him to the hospital if they thought there as any chance.

And I'd say you handled this situation well.

  6. Yikes, Susan!

Melatonin, 10mg will get me a good, solid five hours up front. I can live with that.

    1. Yes, except the only Melatonin I've been able to find is a nasty fake strawberry "let it melt in your mouth" type and I really, really hate it.

  7. One tough day on the road!

Yesterday I cleaned out my car, washed all the windows (too cold to wash the whole car), filled my windshield wiper fluid, and prepared for a trek to NH for a peer group meeting of spiritual guides. So far so good. I get a mile up the road and as I was turning into a side street a truck turning in ahead of me from the other direction suddenly slowed way down, so that I needed to take a longer arch as I turned. That would have gone well but that a snowbank out of my view was sticking out further than the rest and my tire ran across it, lifting slightly. No big deal at all, except that suddenly my "low windshield wash" light came on. I honestly thought the jarring had messed with the sensor. But, it turned out the windshield wash was EMPTY. Nothing showing on the car anywhere. Weird. That little bit, no higher than a curb, somehow cracked the WW container? I guess I'll see on Wednesday when the shop looks at it.

On my way to NH, I heard on NH Public Radio that none other than DT would be in NH today. Euuuccchhhh!! Had I not been one of the presenters today, I might have turned back! I was relieved to find he wasn't coming to the state's capitol of Concord, as that's where I was headed. But it was bad enough he was coming to Manchester, just 15 miles away.

The meeting went fine, and I started on my trek home, same route I've taken for 20 years. Somehow I managed to just miss my exit, so I had no choice but to drive down to the next exit, which meant for a few moments I was not more than 9 miles from Manchester. WHY TODAY?!!??! Argh!!

At least as I went through the toll (which I wouldn't have had at all), the toll taker waved me through, because the person ahead had paid for me!! It really helped to have a kindness happen just at that moment!! So, going no further and simply turning around, when I came back through the toll, I paid for the car behind me, too.

Had to make a stop at a store part way home, at a place I've never shopped. Coming out of the parking lot several lots dump out together just before the road. I had a stop sign and stopped. The car coming from the other lot was further off, so I started off, assuming they had a stop sign too. Only they didn't. No mishaps, but I got beeped at. Sigh. It really still seems to me that there SHOULD be a stop sign for both, especially as the lot I was coming from goes straight to the road and the other one takes a 90 degree turn to the road! Must have been designed by a committee.

Anyway, all taken together, I'm beginning to wonder if I need my eyes checked. I usually get headaches if my prescription is off. But maybe it's cataracts growing or something like that. Or maybe I just didn't get enough sleep last night.

Anyway, very glad to be home!

  9. AND you can just swallow the melt in your mouth with a gulg of water, and then faux strawberry burps are your only problem. . . .
