Looking for Spring

It's time for some colour!
So, until the snow melts and the flowers emerge
or I make it to a garden center,
this begins a series of colourful photos
that I took at a cloth store!

  1. Lipinski is out! The last score or so of precincts skewed strongly toward challenger Marie Newman, who won with 51.65% of the vote. With no effective Republican challenger, she will be the new Congressperson.

    1. Looks like I misread the results. I now see that Lipinski won.

  2. Wow! Another squeaker! This in from politicalwire.com:

Politico: “Democratic primary turnout was up across [Illinois] — overall, it was triple what it was in 2014, according to the Democratic Governors Association.”

“And turnout was 30 percent higher on Tuesday than in 2010, a more comparable primary election since there was a competitive Democratic primary that year. In an ominous sign, Republicans saw an estimated drop of 30 percent in turnout over 2014, which was a highly competitive primary where Rauner edged out three other top contenders.”

  3. Washington Post: “In November, 6,066 state legislative seats are up for grabs, and more candidates — particularly on the Democratic side — are running for state legislative seats than have in decades… In fact, more Democrats are running than in any election since 1982.”

Leak Stuns White House [Works for me!]
March 21, 2018 at 7:48 am EDTBy Taegan Goddard

The report that President Trump “did not follow specific warnings from his national security advisers” when he congratulated Russian president Vladimir Putin was breathtaking and “one of the most startling leaks” of this whole administration. It has left President Trump and his senior staff furious and rattled,” Jonathan Swan reports.

“The speed and sensitivity of the leak prompted immediate finger-pointing within the administration, as aides reeled from a leak that could only have come from a small group of people, each of whom is trusted with sensitive national secrets. Possible motives include concern about how Trump is handling Putin, frustration by the officials about Trump ignoring their advice, or internal power games.”

Cambridge Analytica Stole Obama’s Best Idea

Carol Davidsen, director of Obama media analytics, explained on YouTube[Click]

Facebook freaked out and changed the terms of service so it couldn’t be done legally—but the information was still there for anyone with the requisite skills who was willing to violate the new terms of service. Facebook users generally have no idea they are giving away so much information about themselves and their correspondents.

  4. https://www.nationofchange.org/2018/03/21/the-great-trump-selfie-as-transparency-surges-so-does-disgust/

"What now fully disgusts the majority isn’t the uniqueness of Trump crimes, but the astonishing concentration in one scoundrel. Already our worst president, Trump jumps the shark (though never from greatness) to prove total boorishness is a total bore. It is both chilling and mind-snapping to realize Trump’s vicious, unfeeling surface is all there is: he plays no complex chess games, respects neither strategy nor in-depth thought, – just manic, selfish instincts gone batty. What, like demonizing foes, threatening or not? Arming teachers to confront crazed shooters? Lawlessly confiscating guns? Executing drug dealers? And wait, more nonsense to come."

"The ultimate amateur, Trump never learned Non-Transparency 101. He’s as much a failed con artist as failed president. He can’t even coverup his disgraces, great and small, any more than hide his comical hair. What greenhorn running for city council doesn’t master the first art of public ambition: dissemble, obscure and/or spin. Trump self-humiliates by tossing off the dumbest lies in Christendom. Indeed, the more half-baked the newbie, like Dubya the bumpkin, the more imperative for a Karl Rove to stage-manage whatever charms distract from rightwing garbage dumping. Because Trump knows everything about everything, that ‘s out.

Trump’s task was and is harder, the billionaire/playboy/braggart posing as plain-shooting, ordinary joe, now discredited by not delivering (the Wall, the Ban, a greater America for workers). Now the Entitled One, still deluded he can do anything, acts like he actually wields power when all that’s left is picking different (more inept, more corrupt) clowns to man deck chairs on the Trump Tower Titanic."

"For all of Trump’s callous F**k-You schtick, no president matches his unerring penchant to expose how vulgar and low-brow he is. And worst of all, displaying zero empathy for the pathetic followers wounded when deregulating the oligarchs. Fewer health and safety regulations don’t injure the Koch brothers, only workers; dirty air devastates asthmatic blue collar children, less so kids breathing cleaner suburban air; our gun free-for-all culture kills more poor and working class than rich kids. Unfunded tax giveaways, instead of infrastructure, threaten the 99%, not the walled-in rich and famous. Item, last week’s Miami bridge collapse."

  5. Thinking of the Florida footbridge collapse, I remain astounded that the chowderheads didn't know how to build a farking bridge. Hell, a Bailey Bridge could have been put in place quickly without a crane, and would have been strong enough to carry tanks! (At least WWII tanks.) You don't like the way it looks? Paint it!

    2. Darn right, listener; make it into an art project!

Florida bridge collapse: Design change put project behind schedule, millions over budget[Click] FUBAR. I think a large part of the problem was that the university started out wanting a decoration that would get a lot of federal funding, give them bragging rights and a photo for their brochure—not a bridge. I suspect their engineering department may be made up of academics lacking practical experience, but do consider who is talking. As a Chemistry major I had to take the engineering physics series (taught by engineers) in college—the baby physics series for pre-med and suchlike would not do. That left a lasting impression on me; I often approach things as an engineer rather than an academic. Hell, they could have popped a Bailey Bridge in there in no time, and covered the bones of the structure with stuff to make it look fancier even if they didn't want an art project. If it was intended only for foot traffic, a Bailey bridge would have load bearing capacity to burn. Well, their expensive "bridge" sure brought them world-wide attention.

  6. A new Quinnipiac poll finds American voters disapprove of President Trump’s job performance by 53% to 40%.

By a 55% to 42% margin they say Trump “does not have a sense of decency,” and by a 67% to 29% margin they say “he is not a good role model for children.”

Said pollster Tim Malloy: “Americans say President Trump is damaging the country’s image globally; flunking the decency test and setting a bad example for kids. There’s no way to spin or sugarcoat it. The optics are ugly.”

A lot of people are probably thinking that a Democratic Congress could (figuratively speaking) emasculate him.

  7. We seem to have 13 inches of snow so far (not ending yet). Funny, I'm glad we all have 911, but never thought I'd think about it so much, lol!

I hope you have lots of provisions and are just going to let it melt. I imagine it's heavy wet snow, this time of year, so don't go out shoveling, okay?
