  1. We have the power--in my case to shortly depart for Berkeley, where we will stay overnight, so I can be first on the witness stand in Oakland tomorrow morning.

P.S.: This past Thursday or whenever it was, we paused on the way to Oakland at a rest stop largely surrounded by almond orchards, and the fragrance of the blossoms was quit nice. Flowering pear trees and plums are in full bloom too. Early peaches are in bloom, but later varieties not yet. Nice shows of wildflowers as well.

  3. From the last thread: I don't think HRC's pragmatism means bargaining away anything at all. But she doesn't seem to realize that if you start by asking for very little and express a willingness to compromise, you're going to end up with almost nothing at all. And she's now talking about working with Republicans. Obama tried that for his first year and a half in office, only to find that most Republicans were flatly unwilling to work with a Democratic president on anything.

  4. Also from last thread: I have absolutely no concept of what a club tie, a rep tie, or an Ivy League tie may be. But my sister-in-law's 50th anniversary dinner is the only time in years that I have worn a tie.
