The lease on my 2-door 2013 ice blue Mini Cooper hardtop is just about up. So we went to test drive a 4-door 2016 Mini Cooper over the weekend. Suddenly I am getting the new model! Wow! There's a big sale on at the moment, and it's a super good deal. So we said yes. But we had to go home and think about it long and hard first. The reason? Well, since they don't have ice blue in the 2016, we thought we might go for the dark green with black top. Turns out there isn't one to be had in all of New England or New York in manual transmission. Sigh. In fact, they only had ONE manual on the lot. So we said okay to it. Are you ready for this? It's blazing red with black top, and black bonnet stripes! We ALWAYS use the checkered side-mirror caps, too, as the grands call them "soccer balls" and it makes Grammie's car readily identifiable. But! The kids are going to think we're having a midlife crisis! Ha!! Well, we dearly love to freak them out. ;-) But…red? Am I ready for red? We have always had the bonnet stripes taken off, as they always seems so silly. But somehow the red, black and white looks good with the stripes and Mah*Sweetie likes them a lot. So we're going to leave them on. I feel a little silly, but it is a very good looking car. And, oh my goodness, what a great ride!! This one happens to have the sport seats, and they are super comfortable! The best part is that there are separate heat and cool settings for the driver and passenger. You know, like those dual electric blankets? Well, this could not be more perfect for us! Ha! I am always cold and Bill is always warm. :-D
I think I feel just a little skittish about it all because I grew up on the poor side of the tracks and this is a spiffy car. I guess those childhood struggles never completely leave you.
So, what do you think? Should I wear my black leather jacket to pick up the new Mini? (I got the jacket secondhand for $20!)
I know exactly what you mean about those childhood struggles never leaving you. Somehow a cab ride always seems like an incredible extravagance. But if you like the car, go for it! And if the leather jacket suits...
Thanks, Bill! I'm getting more used to the idear. I knew we'd be getting a new Mini by April, but this came up fast. We thought we'd want the green or at least the blue, but the blue is a strange dark colour we didn't care for. We've decided to name our car "Checkers." :-D I'll post a photo when I have one.
First Mini I ever saw was in Georgetown, circa 1975--I noticed it because from the sidewalk, the roof was only at my waist. Stepped off the curb and walked around it: wheels seemed about the size of dinner plates! But best: the license plate said: NOT BIG.
Well, I'm not, puddle. I never even knew that dude had a dog, much less what its name was. I am naming the car after the game called Checkers, because it's red and black like the pieces on a Checkers board, and it has checkered mirror caps. The game existed before the dog. I refuse to give up a good game and name because of a criminal.
So Howie's still man O ma heart!
ReplyDeleteFunny that I posted this "fine powder" photo for today; what we actually got was blue sky and sunshine! Ha!
ReplyDeleteThe Mountain is pure white again, all the same.

DeleteJus' me, but no way I'd name anything I loved after Nixon's little dog Checkers.
