  3. Meanwhile I sent Bernie $50.16 of love. Puts me on track to give him more than I fave Howard, but I am better off financially than I was a dozen years ago.

  4. The way it often happens…

NONE of the prep I did was useful because the entire plan changed overnight, based on reality. Ha! Instead of needing to send 16 people off in twos with clipboards, we had three tables set up right where people come in, PLUS folks with clipboards along the route people came in by. Different people did that function and I did some of that and some helping of folks with disabilities. Here are my annotated photos from the day! ENJOY!!

Also, here are two links to local news reports (with video!) of the event!

  5. Thanks, Bill, especially for the .16, so the folks at HQ will know it's from a Deaniac! :-)

Also! I saw an Endless Summer shirt today as well as a Dean 2004 shirt! I spoke to the Endless Summer guy (not a blogger) but was too far from the Dean 2004 person. I didn't see him again all day, either.

  6. Wow--I was putting together a Bernie announcement post and listener snuck in! Here goes anyhoo:

Speaking at a rally at Waterfront Park in Burlington, the socialist-Democrat kicked off his campaign like any Vermonter would: with free Ben & Jerry's ice cream and live Zydeco music.e [Click]

That zydeco music sounds like a shameless pander to the Cajuns, but that's OK. It worked for Huey Long, and it can't hurt to get an early start on the Lousiana campaign! And speaking of Huey Long, I still like his slogan, despite the fact it is too dated to recycle: "Every man a king!" If it weren't for Huey, FDR wouldn't have moved nearly so far to the left. Here's hoping Bernie can at least do that much. If he makes it to the California Dem primary I will vote for him--the Dems allow members of other parties to do so, although I will have to figure out how. In the general election I figure it will be Green or maybe Peace and Freedom just for the heck of it. I will send Bernie some love when I get some (I have been looking for a couple of checks for a week now).

    From On Politics:

Don’t expect to find any “Bernie Brownie” or “Swirly Sanders” in your freezer section.
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream keeps its flavors non-partisan, even though co-founder Jerry Greenfield said Wednesday he supports independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, a fellow Vermonter and a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“While Ben & Jerry’s often dives into issues that are political, we are also fiercely non-partisan,” said Christopher Miller, the company’s social mission activism manager. “So while we’re never afraid to take a position on controversial issues, we don’t back candidates for office. We’re proud to see Vermont represented on the national stage, but a Bernie flavor will not be appearing in freezer cases.”

    1. That was Zydeco music? Who knew? They had a good sound and I really enjoyed it. I didn't have much time to focus on it, but it wasn't absurdly loud and aggressive, so it was soothing.

  7. And if we don't hear from listener, Bernie's wife just sent an email about the event.

Scroll down, too, to the photo of the boy who dressed up like Bernie. It was such a cute outfit and I think he was 8 or 9 years old. As he entered Waterfront Park, I said to him, "Wow! You look just like Bernie Sanders!" and he grinned. :-)

    1. I had never heard Bernie speak before; as one would expect, he is an accomplished public speaker. He had me very nearly reaching for my wallet! Well, by next week, I hope. It sounded like there was one person regularly ululating during the pauses in his speech; s/he was really good! I wonder how it is done... I also wonder if I can locate a recording of a Huey Long speech; it ought to be possible. If I do, I will post a link here.

    2. Here are two:

Huey Long, "Share the Wealth (1934) [Click] Pay attention to the statistics he quotes on distribution of wealth and compare it to the present day...

Huey Long, the difference between Republicans and Democrats [Click]

Huey's gestures while speaking are rather over the top by today's standards, but I think they were probably not so at the time.

  10. Forgot to mention that i wore the plaid cap after all. :-)

Plus, here is a really interesting article that highlights the analysis of Chris Graff regarding Bernie's candidacy. Chris is a friend who sails where we do. He is a good and fair interviewer and commentator.

Then, with a few days in between for touristy stuff, on the Seattle for the Pacific Northwest convention of people who run science fiction convention. I'll be back June 10.

    2. Ivar's down on the waterfront of Seattle is a local seafood institution; good seafood and reasonably priced. Pike's Peak Market struck me as a tourist trap. The Pioneer Square area has been an entertainment district since the days when its main drag was the original Skid Row [Road], and although on weekends it is said to be a trifle rowdy at times, it's interesting.
