First day in 39 days that temps will get above freezing! And it hit 39F, with sun instead of rain!!

  1. Whoo hoo! It hit 39F here today…a full 8F warmer than we've seen in well over a month!

PLUS! Our spiffy new refrigerator arrived and is better than remembered! Our new dishwasher is here too, still in the box until Mah*Sweetie gets home. :-)

It will be cold again tomorrow, but for the moment I am staying in present tense!

    1. They revised our projected high down from 45 to 43, but it still was mighty welcome. Cold again tomorrow here too - BLAH - but it was nice while it lasted.

  2. Bill, I appreciate your comment on the last thread. Patty was very earnest, which is why I even bothered considering she might be right. On the face of it, though, her theory sounds very unlikely. I think you're right; people have to demonize new technologies. I'll stop worrying about it.

    1. There is a theory that modern life is in its way TOO safe. That the human psyche needs something (e.g., big predators) to be wary of. So they invent something to fill the gap.

Was it William Gibson who wrote a series of SF stories about a future where people would, by not-quite-spoken agreement, gather in a given city for a few days of lawless violence?

  3. Thirty-nine days of freezing weather sounds like WAY too much winter. The longest hot spell (over 100 degrees each day) that I recall hereabouts was 16 days, and it was getting pretty old after the first week or so.
