I'm writing a quiz titled "The Dean's List." Would you guys please look over this question to make sure I've done our favorite Dean justice?
7. Dean can be a surname. In the 2000s, which former governor of a small New England state revolutionized U.S. politics by bringing it into the Internet age, paving the way for Barach Obama’s successful use of the medium in 2008?
Correct Answer: Howard Dean
John Dean Dizzy Dean jimmy Dean
Born on November 17, 1948, Howard Dean served in the Vermont House of Representatives and two terms as Lieutenant Governor before being elected to three terms as the state’s seventy-ninth governor. He made his mark on national politics with his 2003 presidential campaign. Though he left the race before the end of the primary season, Gov. Dean’s vigorous, down-to-earth style of grassroots campaigning and his innovative use of the Internet (at that time still a relatively new medium) made him a force to be reckoned with in American Politics, directly leading to his election as Chair of the Democratic Party. Under his leadership, the Party became reinvigorated and better organized. Gov. Dean’s trail-blazing work with the Internet and his strengthening of the Democratic Party lead directly to Barach Obama’s successful presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.
A word of explanation about the choices: This is h ow the question is entered in the Quiz Editor. In the finished product, the answers are mixed and displayed randomly.
Two points: Our current president's first name is spelled Barak. And maybe it's just me, but I would expect to see some mention of Dr. Dean's work as a physician.
Before Listener corrects me: I was working on the assumption that the governor's term in Vermont was four years, as it is here in Massachusetts. But, it is two years. Howard was elected to five terms as well as finishing out Gov. Snelling's term.
Born on November 17, 1948, Howard Dean was a practicing physician for a number of years, including while he served in the Vermont House of Representatives and as Lieutenant Governor (both part time positions)before succeeding to the governorship upon the death of Richard Snelling. Elected in his own right in 1992,, he served a further five complete terms as the state’s seventy-ninth governor.

Aside from touching up the odd bit of spelling and punctuation, I agree. For other choices of peoples Dean, check out Dean (surname) listing from Wikipedia [Click]

(Gee, I had it in mind that Howard was born in 1946. Well, he's just a young 'un, I guess.)

I don't know another shorthand way to write it, other than how you did. Yet the phrase "elected in his own right" seems not quite right, in that he was also previously *elected* as Lieutenant Governor, and one of the responsibilities of the Lieutenant Governor is to assume the Governorship should the current Governor die in office. Good luck! ;-)
Howard is first, as always.
