I remember trilliums growing in the forests in the area where I grew up, but only white; I never saw or heard of any other color. They were always a welcome sign of Spring.
Central Valley ag report: Some of the alfalfa has been cut for the first time, and other fields will be. The winter wheat has been cut and bailed for hay. Processor tomatoes are coming along nicely. There are large fields planted with what I believe is cotton, but the plants are still small. There are ever more huge almond and pistachio orchards being planted. I saw what I think is safflower in places, but it hasn’t matured enough that I could be sure. A field of onions I had noticed has just been harvested, so I took a look to see if it would support gleaning, but it seemed to be small white boiler onions, not the softball-sized red, white, or yellow ones, and they seemed to have been very efficiently gathered to boot.
I ordered a small vacuum tube-type headphone amplifier, and during my trip to San Diego I am going to audition some allegedly better headphones than the ones I have now, which were themselves a revelation. I have found more posts online by folks with hearing deficits similar to mine who are well pleased with the fancier models of the brand I have (Grado, made in Brooklyn). An early birthday present.
We have freeze warning for tonight and predictions for 80 degrees next week! Very glad I don't have to forecast the weather. That job just keeps getting more difficult.
We are home safely from Maine and a day of JOY watching our daughter-in-law graduate as a nurse, Summa Cum Laude, and as recipient of the school's Excellence in Academic Achievement Award! So happy!
Howard is foist!
