Mmmmmm

  1. Hip, Hip, HOWARD!

listener--I had to take care of some other things and didn't have time to see the movie [Nosferatu--Phantom der Nacht]. But I had time to figure out my ballot for the June 3rd election, mark it, and fix it up to mail in this (Monday) morning. Some other things got in the way this evening, but I will see that movie sooner or later. I remember the gorgeous scenery on the way to Dracula's castle, and it is full of re-creations of scenes from the original Nosferatu--it's really a tribute movie.

While reading my current book I listened to a CD of reconstructed medieval choir music using my Grado headphones, and lo and behold, even with my poor ears the headphones were good enough that I was able to hear the imperfections of the recording equipment; that's a first. I am SO pleased with those headphones that I am seriously thinking of getting a better pair--but I want to find a place where I can try out the various models that are conceivably within Santa's price range. I sent e-mails to a couple of authorized dealers in San Diego (where I will be Thursday of next week); maybe I will luck out.

  2. Hi guys. Nothing much going on here but computer frustration. UGH! OTOH the BARD Mobile ap for my iPhone works a treat, allowing me to download books and magazines from the NLS collection. Over the weekend I listened to books by old favorites Phylis A. Whitney and Francis as well as checking out a couple of magazines such as Wired. It's totally amazing.

    1. Wired really is pretty cool! We have that at our Library. :-)

  3. Today my eye doc told me for the very first time that I have the beginnings of cataracts. It's not bad enough to do anything clinical yet. Just enough to define me as older than I used to be. Heh.

    1. Ayup, that's about where I am, too. With dry eyes as well, left one more so than the right. Being wised up by the ophthalmologist about what kind of eye drops to use (artificial tears, definitely none of the supposedly redness or itching relief stuff) helped a lot. Cataract surgery seems nowadays to be considered a pretty ho-hum sort of thing; I remember when it wasn't. But that's years and years away. All the various kinds of scans I have had of my innards have shown up one or two other inconsequential things that would probably be unusual in a young 'un.

Still planning to get around to seeing that movie some time this week if possible....
