Back in February there was a stone house I passed often. It was about a mile from my house, back a long lane on heavily wooded property. The house seemed to be from colonial times, looked like it had 10 or 12 rooms. The property is on a heavily traveled corridor that is lined with big box stores, chain restaurants and gas stations. At the end of February the house began to disappear. First the stone facing was removed, presumably for re-use, then the whole house was torn down. Next three big excavators came in and began knocking down the trees. There were piles of ripped out and knocked over trees stacked 20 and thirty feet high. The rumor was there would be a "green belt" left in place. The "green belt" turns out to be a group of about 8 trees left standing near the main highway.
The wood chippers worked nonstop grinding up the piled trees. The entire property has been completely denuded down to bare earth. What I had always thought was about 5 acres turns out to be more like 10 acres. 10 barren empty acres. Probably torn down for the benefit of "big business". It is depressing as hell and really makes me hate people. It's as if they cannot stand to see natural beauty and must destroy it. Like the song says, "they paved paradise and put in a parking lot".
Thad Howard Dean fella is first.

Holy shit! That *is* depressing. Mass murder of trees and, like you say, for what?
DeleteHi--just passing by; I've been swamped lately, no need to send out the Saint Bernards.
