A second here, a second there, and pretty soon you’re talking real time!
This morning I built a rather complicated table (English and Japanese, horizontal and vertical text) using a word processor from a freware/shareware utility package I had kept on hand for a long time but never really used before—NeoOffice, the Mac version of OpenOffice. There was a bit of a learning curve, but not bad at all. If any of you out there are (like me) unwilling to pay for Microsoft Office, OpenOffice/NeoOffice is worth considering. Making the text automatically flow in the right direction is not something every word processor can do. It also handles bi-directional text (e.g. Hebrew and Arabic mixed with English).
I finished pruning the roses today, and will spray with dormant oil tomorrow. I began to think about dusting with sulphur, since we can't purchase lime sulphur any more. (My old dormant spray was light oil combined with lime sulphur). I remember a old Italian neighbor whose grape arbor and home garden were just wonderful. He never applied anything but oil in the winter and sulphur later. The device he used for applying sulphur dust had a bellows and a long snout, similar in design to one one sometimes sees used as a fireplace accessory. He said it was exactly the same as the ones he used as a young man in Italy. Browsing the Internet I don't find any like that--just plastic crank designs that don't look much good and don't have good reviews. Anybody here ever happen to see the old-fashioned bellows type?
Gloomy, dreary solstice here. Light rain started in the afternoon. Not yet freezing, but will be before the night is done. Not clear whether we will see snow overnight or tomorrow.
Finished All Creatures Great and Small and am left feeling somewhat lost. Must look to see if Audible or if necessary NLS has ferther volumes. I know he wrote one more, and seem to remember a third.
Slept all day with a couple of brief, uneasy wakings, finally being able to get up at quarter to four. And even with that I'm tired now. Uploaded a few Christmas songs to YouTube, but I really haven't done much else. Unless I'm off in my reckoning, this is the twenty-sixth day of bleeding. It does finally seem to be slowing down, but I thought that before and it re-surged. I'm taking my iron every day and trying to remember to drink plenty of liquids. But I am feeling just a bit weak. On top of that, it seems I'm coming down with a cold. GRR!
Dean is first in any season!

I've never seen the fireplace bellows as a hand duster, but this *is* a bellows duster. . . . .

That seems to be for getting creepy-crawlies behind cabinets and suchlike.

ReplyDeleteIncredibly, tomorrow's forecast high is 63. We got up to 50 today, but 63? Crazy! Our snow cover will be completely gone by Christmas day. :P
ReplyDeleteBTW great firstie yesterday, Listener.
